New Whitley Co. Coach

Recommended Posts

Baker was a manager at Cumberland college then went on to become an assistant coach at Whitley under Davenport, Voight and later Prewitt. Once Whitley hired Maxey as head coach Baker left and went to Corbin for one year as an assistant to Mike Deaton. He then left to become the head coach at Green County and thereafter to Breathitt Co. He was last and assistant to Greg Coldiron at Powell County before returning home to Whitley County last year. So he is well travelled. I would suspect he will run the same kinda things as Deaton did. He learned most of his basketball from the Silver Fox. I am not sure if Chris even played high school basketball or not. But he has worked with some very good head coaches and did have a nice team or two at Breathitt. If he does get the job, I would say he will be a Mini Deaton type of coach. Not sure that is what the Whitley masses really want though.

I think he is a great coach and knows basketball and is a winner, not very personal with parents but he is a winner and is what i call a really good team coach and he took a Breathitt team with not much talent and won all time(2-3 yrs) he was a Breathitt ,i say he would be a good coach for any team that wants to win.....Congrats Coach Baker

Bake has a wealth of basketball knowledge and is worthy of another chance of being a head coach. His last year at Breathitt was when the Bobcats were defeated by Powell County in the regional semis in that fiasco of a ballgame.

What happened in that game to call it a fiasco? Why was Baker let go from Breathitt, he appeared to be very successful

Coach Baker has earned his shot. I hope that it is a long tenure but looking at history that is not likely. Whitley has a slew of young talent and I think that they could be competitive in the district for several years with under coach Baker.
