Barry Larkin - Confused

This is what I sent you a text about.

I was thinking...If there's a big run that you have to score from third, this could easily be a distraction play. First instinct is to double off the runner who left too early. Not sure how I feel about the definition of this being an 'appeal play' though...

Good point on the distraction. I bet Myerhoff has it in his trick bag.

What's your concern about the appeal play?

I guess it's the definition (or what I think the definition is) of an 'appeal'. When ever there's an 'appeal', there is a communication with the umpire...ie...runner missed the bag, runner left early...etc. There was no communication and it's in the continuation of the play. To me, it's the very same as a force out on a 6-4-3 double play. That would negate the 'appeal' part of the 'appeal'...:creepy:

I think most people that of an appeal as you described. An appeal is any claim made against the offense for some sort of violation. It can be made immediately. It doesn't have to be a dead ball appeal and it doesn't have to go the mound first before the appeal.

I didn't know that. I also didn't feel so bad knowing Orel Hershiser, Barry Larkin AND Mike Fox weren't too sure about it either...

Larkin is STILL trying to find the rule that says a guy that didnt tag and was called out can count as a run scored!!!

He'll be searching for a while...

On a side note, the fellas and I were wagering that there were at least two coaches on OSU's bench wondering why in the hell they were winning 3-2 at that point...
