New State Tournament Idea

Would the Regional and Sectional finals, be a double-elimination also, or would the team with no losses, play the loser bracket winner and that is the champion, in a 1 game format.

Excellent job gchs_uk9....:thumb:

The regional and sectionals would be double elimination, just like the district and state. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Thanks for the positive comments!:thumb:

Someone mentioned classes and does anyone know, the Baseball class breakdown, to compare and discuss the numbers.

There are roughly 260+ schools playing baseball in Kentucky. If you divided into two classes, that's 130 team per class. You'd probably want to divide those 130 into eight regions instead of sixteen, which would likely throw off my plan. I'll work on that and get back to you!

If there were two classes...

130+ teams per class

16.25 teams per region (8 regions)

4+ teams per district (32 districts; 4 per region)

With two state tournaments, you might have to play the big class at Applebee's Park and the smaller at UK, or maybe hold them in back-to-back weeks. Open for discussion.

State Tournament

8 region winners participate; bracket should be drawn

3:30 - Game 2

6:00 - Game 3

8:30 - Game 4

Wednesday

3:30 - Game 6 (Loser-3 vs. Loser-4)

6:00 - Game 7 (Winner-1 vs. Winner-2)

8:30 - Game 8 (Winner-3 vs. Winner-4)

Thursday

3:30 - Game 9 (Loser-7 vs. Winner-6)

6:00 - Game 10 (Loser-8 vs. Winner-5)

8:30 - Game 11 (Winner-7 vs. Winner-8)

Friday

6:00 - Game 12 (Winner-10 vs. Winner-9)

8:30 - Game 13 (Loser-11 vs. Winner-12)

Saturday

Championship Game

6:00 - Game 14 (Winner-12 vs. Winner-13)

This has got to be one of the best ideas I've seen come out of BGP. GREAT JOB, gchs_uk9!

The only thing I would change is the Final Championship of the State Tournament, I would do what is done in the NCAA World Series, they pit the winner of the Winners Bracket against the Winner of the Loser's Braket in a Best of Three Series. This forces you to really think about your pitching and it crowns the better overall "TEAM", not the team with the one best pitcher.

Has there ever been a District runner up win a state title?

I know of one, East Carter coached by JP Kounts in the mid 80's(I think 84), I believe they lost to Rowen Co in the district beat them in the region finals.

The only problem that I would see is rain. Right now with only games on three days, games can be pushed back and not cut into rest or into another round. Dunbar and Clark County had to postpone a game in their semi-state and it didn't hurt them, but if they still had a lot of teams left, it would throw a wrench in it.

I do like the idea though. I would love to see double-elimination like the girl's do in softball (though pitching is not an issue in softball).

I love the idea of a double elimination tournament. As mentioned before it is exactly what is done in the NCAA baseball tournament, minus the Super Regionals.

I do like the idea of once you establish the final two teams in the state, set the finals up so that there is enough rest for each team to be at full rest and then play a 3 game series which again shows the best overall team.
