All In Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 They have a tremendous staff of assistants and the like and was wondering why none of these guys has tried venturing out to head coaching positions of their own? It has always amazed me how Mason County has been able to hang on to such a great coach and person in Coach Buchanan and their coaching staff all these years with their success.
ThrowItDeep Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Great place to coach. (Head Coach is solid.) Great place to teach. (Teacher pay scale is really good.)

ChiefSmoke Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Thanks for the kind words about the head coach and our staff. Our assistant coaches are fine men, and very good coaches as well. As good as they are with their football, their best characteristic is that they love kids. We enjoy working together and the kids we coach. It is also a great environment- its not uncommon to come to practice and have a pastor present, or Steele Harmon with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Guys like Tom Duncan, Sparky McDowell, Butch Chain, Danny Weddle or John Denham also come by practice frequently and take an interest in our kids. The teaching salaries are very good, but have no bearing on our assistants coaching salaries. Money is absolutely no factor in why our guys coach football at Mason County. I was hesitant to get into this thread after the college rumor thread. I like how theguru handled that thread, as he does in managing BGPreps as a whole. You are correct in thinking that several of our coaches would make outstanding head football coaches. I agree, and I am thankful that they coach football at Mason County.

Do you think that having Coach Buchanan as the Head Coach plays a bearing on why the assistant coaches stay? Do you think that there is a cohesiveness to the staff because they have taken a program that is down and turned it into a winner?

Coach, we could really use some(or 1 or 2) of those assistants over here in nearby Bracken County. If not in the high school, for sure in middle and lower. Have tried to get them to pursue, but they keep going to Northern Ky. :thumb:
JOHNDUNHOFT Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I think that Coach B and Staff are one of the best staff's I have ever met or coached against. I wish them only the best in the future. JD (Lloyd)
