CovCath scored 6 runs in the first inning and didn't look back. Freshmen Adam Warring (sp) in his first varsity appearance was on the mound and hurt himself by throwing the ball over (we heard you Mom ) the CovCath SS on a sure double play, but was able to get out of the first inning only giving up 1 run. CovCath didn't score in the second but again Dixie was held to only another run by the CovCath young freshmen. Dixie scored their final run in the bottom of the third on a double, wild pitch and a SF Fly.....

 

CovCath broke open the game in both the top of the six and seventh with the big blow a three run HR by Josh Bleser that hit near the A/C unit on top of the building in dead center field. Senior Pauley came in to pitch in the fourth and shut down Dixie the rest of the way.

 

Shane (the vacuum) Popham was a one man defense at third today as everything and anything hit his way was a out. On one particular play he dove to his left stopping the ball, got up to his feet and easily threw out the runner at first. While Pop will be kicking at Wake Forest in the coming years if I were the WF baseball coach, I would be begging the football coach to let him play baseball. Pop also had two hits and three RBI's.

The Kentucky Post reported Monday that the CovCath victory against Owensboro Catholic last Friday/Saturday night, was the 1,000th win in the schools baseball history. Way to go Colonels.....

CovCath next game is a District match up against Cov Holy Cross at 5pm. Should be a great one as I am sure you will see Ryan vs. Bleser.....

Warning did a good job today considering he had to have some huge butterflies in his stomach.. I am sure that the six runs CovCath earned for him in the first helped him, but then the error and it had to bother him. He kept his composer and I think his next time out you will see a even better pitcher. With both young men (frosh) Warning and (soph) Sainola pitching some varsity this year, and hopefully (soph) Isler starts throwing soon this year, it will mean CovCath will again be a tough team next year......

Congrats to Adam (Warning)! Adam played ball for me the past two summers and pitched very well. Occasional bouts of wildness, but he has a lively fastball and good curve and will be even more effective as he improves his changeup. He will be extremely tough as he gets older and stronger. I would think freshman Chris Gerwe would also be on CC's pitching radar screen, as he is apparently dominating teams at the freshman level.
