CCH 3 Ryle 2

Featured Replies

Ryle attempted to rally in the 7th but hit into a game-ending DP on a liner back to Niehaus.

Curtin picks up the win and Niehaus picks up the save.

Too cold for baseball.

They play again Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. so I'd expect another cold one.

Too cold for baseball was a understatement cshs81, I am still trying to thaw out. Big game for the Colonels in beating a great Ryle team. Considering the weather and especially the wind, both teams played an outstanding game. Good job of hitting by Popham and number 2 for the Radiers. The line shot to end the game hit by Murray was an indeed a shot and it reminded me of the shot that Popham hit against Ryle to end the first game at Tates Creek on a much warmer day.

CovCath was to play Holmes in a 35th District game Friday, but Holmes begged out due to it being prom night. No idea when this game will be made up. Certainly hope the weather will allow the games to be played both Saturday and Sunday, but after seeing the National Weather Service forecast for this weekend, it doesn't look good.

Finally I would like to thank Mr. Brown and his Florence Freedom ground crew for having the field in such great shape. Mr Brown I along with all the CovCath fans want to say thank you for allowing the Colonels and Raiders to play at such a great venue....

Good ballgame indeed. Pretty much what you expect from the 1 and 2 teams, two 1 run ballgames. We had our chances in the first, fifth, sixth and 7th with runners in scoring position but could not get the crucial hit when we needed it. Hats off to the Raider infield who made some crucial plays with bases loader situations. Tough way to end a game with a rope back at the pitcher and a baserunner in no mans land. Can't wait to play again.

Ryle's shortstop is very, very solid.

Colonels get back at Ryle.....

Covington Catholic pitcher Matt Curtin tried to ignore the fans heckling him at Champion Window Field Thursday.

It wasn't like he beamed three batters on purpose.

"Aw no, I didn't try to do that at all. Complete accidents," Curtin said.

Great game to watch - class act by two quality teams and coaches. Would love to see that game played at the same location with 25 degree warmer weather. Hats off to both teams.

How many Texas Leaguers did the Colonels have?

There were a few but the big hits were Popham's 370+ to center, Blesser's 360+ to left, Larkin's shot to right center for a double.
