Bankemper recently learned he's among eight finalists for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association's wrestling coach of year the award. He'll be recognized at a June awards banquet in Wisconsin, where the winner will be announced - and given a 10-carat ruby ring.

"I was a little surprised when I found out, but I'm honored," Bankemper said.

I would like to see Mike win this award. I wonder if we have any other coaches in the state who has won this award or at least been a finalist?

Prowling around their web site, looks like Rusty Parks (Woodford County) is a past winner, and two KY Cross Country Coaches (Tony Rowe of Daviess County and Tom Williams of Bardstown) are past winners since 2001. Good company and congratulations to Mike.
