We have a lot of youth at LB. Simmons was the "old guy" to look up to last year. Hopefully his work ethic and the attitude he brought to the game rubbed off, but it was his time to go.

With the salary he made and the production he brought, I agree it was time for him to go.

 

I just don't see where the Achilles of the team has been addressed, except a hope that young players who haven't shown the ability to defend anyone all of a sudden develop the ability to defend.

It seems the Bengals will have another draft loaded with defensive players and about the time they have developed the contracts of the offensive players will be up and they will have to release them to pay the defensive players.

At this point, no. Next year at this time, you never know. In this group of free agents I felt Thomas was the only one worth close to his asking price. Far too often the fan base gets too caught up in "doing something" even though the result is almost always failure...

To me, with the loss of Odell, the LB position is the position they are sorely lacking in. I agree on Thomas but figured they were out of that race before it started.

 

I just would hate seeing them miss out on the opportunity they have. Weaker schedule, great offense, good time to make Super Bowl run but not the defense to do it. When one good LB could have made the difference.

But outside of Thomas who is the LB you desire? Porter? I've made my case clear on trying to fit him into a new system, and he was WAY overpaid. Who else is (or was) out there? Johnson, Miller, Jeanty, Brooks, Frazier and (fingers crossed) Odell is a solid rotation. Add a guy or two in the draft and all is back to normal...

I'm suggesting Odell is doing what is needed to solve his addiction issues better than he has in a long time. As always the fear of even one relapse cannot be removed.

 

Marvin has said letting Takeo go was a mistake, but with his injury issues over the past two years, wouldn't we be sitting in the same boat???

I don't think so. I think they need to improve on defense, but through experience and the draft. I thought they were better last year than the previous year, but they didn't have the high turnover ratio. If O'Dell was there the defense would have been a lot better IMO.

Are there plans for Frazier in the middle? He was drafted to play outside and I'm not sure if he has ever played inside. He is long and athletic and runs very well, just curious if the Bengals have plans on moving him there. He may do well, but I'd hope they aren't counting on that too strongly.

Just a hunch on my part. With his size and mobility I think a move inside would be well suited...
