March 7, 200719 yr People always try to compare Tubby and Pitinos stats from when he was at Kentucky which are almost IMPOSSIBLE to live up to...Lets compare the records from the last two years and figure out why there is not any fire Ricky threads... Pretty Ricky = 43- 21 (including wins in the NIT) Tubster = 41 - 23 This is not a Tubby bashing thread in one bit( Everyone knows i'm for the guy) or Pitino bashing thread. I was just wondering from the UofL fans why people do not get on Ricky like they do Tubby because the last two seasons for both teams have not looked too promising...

Just a few reasons that come to mind rather quickly... 1) There are far more people on this site, and statewide, that are concerned about UK basketball. 2) The standards at UK are higher. 3) UK fans bleed blue...they're die-hard and spoiled. 4) Pitino is in the process of rebuilding a program. Tubby, if he doesn't reverse course, is in the process of tearing one down.
March 7, 200719 yr Author Because UL fans are smarter than most UK fans...(And I am a UK fan...) Yes, I would understand that completely...
March 7, 200719 yr Author     This is not a bashing thread I was asking a simple question from UL fans...

So the rebuilding should be over by then, and should have stayed at that level, or atleast UK fans would think so. But now he is aloud go to back to rebuilding instead of staying at that level??? I mean you can say the same for Tubby then, I mean he had this team as one of the top 3 teams in the country for the 3 year period from 03 to 05. So should we consider Tubby in the rebuilding process and cut him slack then, since people like to use that excuse for Pitino...

Great arguement...That is what I was thinking when he said Pitino was rebuilding...
March 7, 200719 yr Just a question...suppose Denny Crum had left Pitino a team that had won a title and been runner-up the two years before he got there, then Pitino went on to win one his first year...then he had the years he's having... The situations are totally different, but yet people want to compare them as equal. And, one more minor difference this year, is that Pitino's team turned the corner and started playing some pretty good basketball...some one refresh my memory...what did UK do during that same stretch?

I think Pitino deserves a little criticism...I think it's taken him longer at U of L than most people, including me, thought. The thing is, as I previously posted, U of L had a terrible year last year and started poorly this year, but they turned the corner and are playing pretty good now. Second place in the Big East good...again, we're still waiting for UK to turn the corner...the clock is ticking...2 years and counting.
March 7, 200719 yr The mid to late 90's raised UK's expectations to a level that can't be lived up to anymore....

If Pitino had taken over after Denny Crum in that situation, then people would say he hasn't lived up to expectations, and hasn't kept the team up to that level. But does that mean he is a bad coach then, because he cant stay at a impossible level to stay at? No it does not mean that, and it the same way for Tubby. NO COACH IN AMERICA would have been able to keep us at that level that we were at through 96 to 98...

Its true UL has been playing better lately, but would it mean anything if they end up getting knocked out in the first weekend of the tournament...
March 7, 200719 yr Was that Pitino's team who had a HORRIBLE season last year with one of the best all around players in the nation??? It was his team, not sure who the best all around player you're referring to is though? In any case, I'm not getting into a debate on this...I just wanted to give you some reasons why things are perceived differently...if you don't like or agree with them, that's fine.
