How loud and blatantly obvious was it when Oboma said "Y'all" when he is in Alabama.

 

He doesn't talk like that and I bet was specifially coached to say it.

Endorsing a particular candidate from the pulpit is in violation of the law. However, it is certainly not against the law to speak out on issues such as abortion, gay rights, civil unions, protection of marriage and family concerns. (at least not yet!) These issues can be put to the test using scripture from the pulpit. It is the congregations personal responsibility to become informed voters. If they are Christian then it would seem that they would do this through the lens of scripture. As for politicians giving speeches in church ---- I don't think that is a proper forum.

I have a problem with it being during worship services unless it is a message aimed at furthering the kingdom of God.

During the worhsip service I have a problem. My big problem would be taxes, most of us pay dearly each year and every day so yes I have a problem with politicians campaiging at worship.

I think politicians should stay out of the pulpit. I think preachers should stick to preaching the Bible and the word of God and leave politics out of their sermons.

 

Once a politician has been in Washington a few years, I see very little difference

between a "liberal" and a "conservative". Yet we all know how slick the politicians are to play off these "labels" and somehow convince weak minded voters they are better Christians than their opponents. Let's keep the churches to Preaching the message of Salvation and leave the politics for another venue.

I think it would be difficult for a preacher to hold political office. If he is called by God to preach, he would not have time for political campaigns and holding office too.

Not sure the whole peace and togetherness thing is completely accurate. It is a goal to strive for but Jesus has indicated that because of his stance, it won't happen.

Notice I said "Should" we Christians SHOULD strive for it, and I agree with you and Jesus (hard not to agree with him) it will never fully happen

That's rather selective isn't it? I don't see that as applying to his quote.

Everything I have ever read in the Bible points the church towards unity. Unity is spirit, in body, in mind, in purpose.

I was pointing out between the church and society. We will not be in one with society. We should try to and we should seek being one with all OUTSIDE of the church so that we are able to witness to them. But in reality some will hate us because of Jesus and his teachings.

 

Absolutely as a church those in should be unified as you point out. But with society around us and bringing people TO THE CHURCH, I don't think it will happen as a complete unified mindset. There will be some that because of personal reasonings will reject Jesus.
