We all know that today's hardships economically are not directly the result of Bush's tactics...they have been lined up for years. When our country was booming, and Bill was galavanting around behind his wife's (and our country) back, these days were upon us. This is the natural ebb and flow of national economics. I applaud George W. Bush for making sure to keep us safe, and standing by his convictions.

And what are his convictions?

To defend Iraq, and bring it into democracy, he has already gotten one of the world's most vicious tyrants, and has gotten many of Al Qaeda's leaders as well. GW was dealt a very unattractive hand, yet he has continued to plod along and represent us, in darn near the fashion that I want my leader to do so.

So, let me get this straight, just to see if we are on the same page. If another country thought that our national leaders were treating us unfairly, it would be okay for say someone like China to come in and liberate us and put their troops in our land, and occupy our every move and to bring us to so called democracy and freedom. There are no debates, no answers, no proof to justify this war with Iraq. It is amazing that when Saddam (this evil tyrant) was doing the same things back in the 70's, that he happend to be buds with our diplomats, Rumsfield, Cheney, and Bush Sr.

 

Bush has no convictions but one and that is to say yes to his puppeteer.

I assume you are around the age of 30. Are you at all concerned about projections from within the federal government (Walker is the Comptroller General of the U.S.) that show a crippling increase in the cost of the entitlement programs when well-known demographic shifts occur over the next few decades? This is not a natural ebb and flow type of thing, but is more like the consequences of signing up for every credit card you can get your hands on and then maxing them all out with purchases.

I am taking a cue here from HHSDad, to bounce off of what "H" stated. This counrty has made some decisions over the last several decades that is just now coming back to bite us and one day will really have a dramatic affect on our children and grandchildren. Its not just one thing but the combination that is going to cripple us. I have a special inside source(Washington,DC), I mean really on the inside and every thing that this person has told me in the last couple of years, I have set back and watched his words of warning become a reality, if Americans think that we are out of the woods with terrorism, finances, oil, social security...then you are either alseep or fooling yourself. We need drastic changes and even with those changes it will take a decade to clean this last mess up by this current administration.

I don't think you can really lay the blame for the entitlement problem at anyone person's feet. Sure, I'd like to blame FDR for getting the entitlement programs started or LBJ for giving us welfare and all that goes with it or even any congress over the past 35 years for spending like they have an American Express Black Card. But this train wreck has been coming for a long time and has been gathering so much speed and momentum that no president can stop the coming carnage short of derailing the train where it will do the least amount of damage.

 

So where should we place the blame? H gives us a good start with personal credit gone wild. I remember a time not that long ago when most retirees owned their homes free and clear. Not so anymore. We can also blame increased life span. When Social Security was established, it was predicated on the idea that few people would live long enough to retire. Average lifespan was in the low 60's. Now its close to 80. So we have a system supporting millions of people far beyond what it was ever designed for.

 

You can also blame social awareness. Being humane is expensive. And we've yet to design a system that is little more than codependent and traps people in their poverty or other misfortunes. We can find plenty of things to blame, but can we find a fix?

To this end, we can blame medical and technological advances. Who would have thought we'd be able to transplant hearts, have dialysis machines, and a myriad of drugs prolonging life?

As I previous stated it is a combination of bad decisions. If you manage to save 10 cents per dollar hats off to you. Our economy has been wrecked for a while going back to at least five administrations. We are partly to blame for voting some people back into office, we must take some responsibility for voting lying corrupt theives back in the White House
