I would hope Flannery and Popp would get significant playing time at the varsity level next season. Flannery was the leading scorer on the JV team all season. I have never seen the leading scorer on the JV team, game after game, not get any playing time on the varsity team. Flannery is one of the, if not the best three point shooter in the state right now.

Flannery is a nice player but the best 3 point shooter in the state? Maybe one of the better frosh shooters but lets not get carried away. For those predicting a regional title for the young Rebels in the future look at Holmes and then look at posts like these and remember talent doesn't always win without chemistry. Seems to be a lot of agendas already with this young group.

These players have been playing togather for most of their life. I would say they would have some kind of chemistry.

I really feel that the only way this group won't challenge for a couple of regional titles is if they aren't coached and utilized properly in varsity.

I would say he is definitely the best freshman 3-point shooter in the state. What agendas? I know that at least a few of them are very unselfish team players and only care about winning. Talent also doesn't always win without good coaching. Talent only gets you so far.

I seem to remember predictions of three regional titles and a couple of state titles from the Holmes bunch before they were through, and that was before Greg Rice and Arrez Henderson were even in the mix??

This talk began when Rice, Hill, Jefferson and Edmondson were all sophomores and Henderson was a freshman playing in the Sweet 16 in 2005. It was thought that with so many sophomores, a budding freshman and only losing Lexie Brown to graduation, that how could they not go back 2 more times. They found out last year that it wasn't going to be as easy a skate to Rupp as they had thought. I do believe however that this year they've begun to learn that hard work and focus precede success. They're in better position now, mentally and physically (except for Jefferson who is making a decent recovery from a football injury), than they were at this time last year to make it to the regional finals. I think that most of their drama and negative issues are behind them and that they are gelling as well as can be expected at the right time. They made a hugh statement Friday night when they gave E-town a serious spanking. They dominated that game far beyond anyones expectations. It really does appear that they've learned from their setbacks. They've taken their lemons and made some pretty darn good lemonade from them.

Not knocking these kids at all, but I obviously remember a lot further back with this group than you. This group and their teammates (the old NKY Tarheels) were being touted as multiple regional & state champions back in their middle school years, and then as contributing freshmen at Holmes, and Rice was at Holy Cross then. Those who doubted these claims were mostly driven by the thoughts that they'd never stay together, which in some part has been true. (Hester & Kohrs headed to Simon, Luster to Ryle, Edmundson to SK, then back to Holmes, now Gallatin)

 

I hope they make a run and finally fulfill those lofty expectations, but it just goes to show, with young athletes; be careful what you hype early on--It's a long road, filled with pitfalls, from the Freshman year to Graduation!!
