That's what someone said. I have no idea if he was or not, but I have never heard anything positive about the refs in the 13th region. The 12th region has some of the best refs in the state, and we're lucky for that.

Thats what I heard, i havent been around the 13th til Deaton went to Whitley this year but evidently they are the equivalent to mountain football referees!

Deaton did a good job of keeping this game ugly and giving his kids a chance to win...Crawford had a nice game for Whitley...The Watts kid played well down the stretch and and did not miss a FF...How does Tommy Greer get to officiate a game out there when he use to coach at Whitley :confused: The Watts kid is a player and needs more touches IMO...

There are a lot of officials in the 13th that call games for teams that has major ties with that school: is this right or wrong

M. Ashurst- his daughter goes to Corbin and he calls everyone of Corbin home games and especially the girls games.

S. Brock- call a lot of Bell Co. games and he is retired teacher from Bell.

B. Hammons- He is an employer of Knox Co. and does Knox Central games.

M. Philpot- He does South Laurel games and is a Grad from there.

E. Canady- is a Grad from Knox Central and does games at Knox. His wife is on the bench with Clay Co. or use to be, and he calls clays games.

Estep- he is a Harlan Grad and does Harlan games.

D. White- is an employee of Harlan Co. and does games in Harlan Co.

C.Kirk- who knows

Griffen- He has a son that plays at Middlesboro and he call Midd. girls games

Johnson- is Bobby Keiths son and law and does all of Clays home games. just kidding

Like I mentioned earlier, the 13th needs some young guys to step up and give the schools another option. It would be hard to find someone who does not know somebody, but I have seen very few new guys getting into officiating. Estep and Ely are kinda new and both are pretty solid and seem to be fair. Maybe they need to increase the recruiting search for officals sometime soon.

You are kidding about Ely right? He is way bad and does not seem to be getting any better

 

 

Back to the game, I think that Whitley and Coach Deaton are serving notice that they are going to be a team that will only get better as they mature, they play excellant defense and with the coaching of Deaton are becoming mentally tough:thumb:

 

 

They have beaten a team that could have challenged for their respective district crown and have been in almost every game.

I think the Colonels have certainly served notice that they are a threat to Corbin and South Laurel. Looks like Coach Deaton has things going exactly like he wants it out in Colonel land. If he can get some wins over Monticello, Spencer, Rockcastle then he will have 10 wins for the season. Big progress from last season when the Colonels won about 5 or 6 games. I bet Coach Guffey would have had almost identical numbers if he would have not chosen to move onto the college ranks. I think the progress is noted in the almost win over Lynn Camp this season. I think last year the Wildcats beat the Colonels twice and neither game was close like the game this year was.
