16th Region All Time Greats

I agree with you 16th62nd. She is the best that I have seen. She must have been pretty good for UK to offer her a scholarship.

Once again a difference of opinion. Kevin Walls averaged 45 points a game in High School and was offered a scholarship at the University of Louisville. He never done anything at Louisville. Point being made is that just because UK offered her a scholarship doesnt mean much. Joe B. Hall gave scholarships to Chris Gettlefinger and Bo Lantern as well. Like I said before, she was very good but not in my top ten. Note (Not to take away from her accomplishments by no means) but she played at a time when the region was a little down from top to bottom.

I don't think the region was "a little down" during Kasi's time. If I remember correctly she was in the region just before West Carter made it's run for a state championship. You have Kandi Brown and Megan Gearheart at West, Mandy Sterling at Ashland before the transfer, Nikki Young at Ashland (who walked on at UK). Natalie Dial at Russell (who was mentioned previously in this thread). Fairview makes it to the final four of the All A state tournament about that time as well. The competition was there. There was less parity among teams in the region at that time, but I think we will see the same thing next year after this class graduates. The old standbys will go back to the top while everyone else reloads. That doesn't mean there won't be great players.

And you can knock Kasi and say her stats were only great on an individual basis, but she was also a pretty good distributor of the ball as well. Maybe some animosity because she left the region and still had success?

Animosity? You must be kidding!! This is a forum where people state their opinions. For the millionth time I said she was not in MY top 10. Put her where you want on your list. And since it was mentioned that she left the region i wouldn't qualify her for this thread anyway.

She may have "peaked out" by her freshman year, but she could play circles around most nonetheless.

I would add Alison Osborne from Russell to that list. She led Russell to a regional championship in '94 I believe.

I am just curious, who else was on that team...was Coach Reed's daughter playing back then?

If I remember right Penny gearhart won Miss B-Ball and Kandi Brown was Sweet 16 MOP, nobody is talking about them! BTW Kasi could really play as well!

Agreed! You can't talk girls basketball in the 16th without mentioning many West Carter players. They were for years the elite program in this region.

Guys, calm down...I agree 100% with what you are saying. When I started the thread I only mentioned a few teams. Many teams and players were not mentioned for 2 reasons.

1. To allow other posters to mention their faves

2. Some I just dont know much about (Lawerance Co and Rowan)

:ylsuper: One good thing about all of the passion being thrown about on this thread; it is allowing us all to see how many great players have come from this region over the years and there are some pretty good young players in the area as well.

Two Raceland transfers joined Osborn on that team--Holly Reed and Sabrina Lynch.
