On Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Shelby Valley High School, the 1982 Boy's Basketball State Semi-Finalist team from Virgie High School will be recognized.

There will be a reception for all varsity and junior varsity members of the 1982team, and the cheerleaders from 1982. The reception will be held in the SV student center at 6:30. All members of the basketball team and the cheerleading squad, along with their families, are invited to celebrate our 25 year reunion.

The team and cheerleaders will be recognized between the boy's junior varsity and varsity game between Pikeville High School and Shelby Valley at approximately 7:30 PM.

Todd May was a great player for Virgie. I fully enjoyed watching him in the 1981 & 1982 state tournaments.

It would be awesome for Shelby Valley to wear throwback Virgie jersey for the game (that is if it wouldn't offend Dorton Wildcat fans!)

This game will be broadcast on WDHR 93.1 in Pikeville.

They had a GREAT team that year and should be recognized as such.

 

They probably dislike Paul Andrews who hit clutch free throws to give Laurel County the semifinal win over Virgie almost as much as North Hardin who lost on his midcourt state championship game shot.

 

For the record, .... I was a student at Laurel County at that time and remember thinking that the improbably run would end that morning against Virgie. Glad I was wrong.
