Tropics Starting Up?

Featured Replies

Those with interests along the southeast coast should begin monitoring the tropical weather even though it is still a week away. According to the 7-day outlook, there is a system that has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical depression.

1. Tropical Atlantic:
A large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the
eastern tropical Atlantic is associated with a tropical wave.
Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development
of this system, and a tropical depression could form during the
latter part of the week while moving westward to west-northwestward
at about 20 mph across the central tropical Atlantic, possibly
approaching the vicinity of the Leeward Islands on Friday.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent

Here is what the GFS currently displays. The future development of this system, if it develops at all, will cause things to change.

Is this Hurricane Erin? Or in addition to Erin?

This is later this week, so in addition to Erin.

Erin should be moved up and away from the east coast by that point.

As of now, it appears that the possible system will take a similar track to Erin. Things could change so I will continue to monitor it.
