James Turner transferring out of Newport - (Official as of 7-3-25)

The father of one of Starks' teammates from a USA Basketball event is the coach at his prep school in FL. So that is the connection for that move.

I believe Turners' recruitment has stalled a bit so he jumped the gun to commit to the AZ Prep school. His AAU season hasn't gone as planned either. Hope it works out well for the young man.

  • So who are the guardians of the young man? The sources are getting their info from someone. It’s Newport basketball not LeBron to Miami.

  • I was told yesterday, Lowe and Nichols are both gone as well! If true, that 4 of the 5 starters gone!

I stated somewhere recently that I thought Lowe might end up playing with Austin Davie. What do you think the chances of that are?

I don’t want to say 0, but I’d say very “Lowe” ? knee slapper!

I think the biggest thing is the potential on their physical traits. You can't teach someone to be 6'6+. But to me they both underachieved since after their freshman year. I haven't seen the development in their game over time. I think they both recently have depended or were fine with getting by with their physical traits more than having an all around game and even though their "good" they think their "great" already. I know a few years ago TK's step dad Drew Mitchell played a huge hand in getting them where they were. Once TK took his route I don't know if that took Mitchell out the picture or what. Starks is still really really young he is only 15 so I think he still has a chance to take off if he is realistic about where his game is at, which I think realization has set in. Turner, I hate to say it but has let some very valuable time slip by. I think realization is setting in though on Turner and his inner circle that time can no longer be wasted. If he is level headed about where his game is at and that he is going to need this year at a prep school and a couple years in college probably not seeing the floor a whole lot then in about 3-4 years he may actually be as good as he thinks he is. Alot of the "prep" schools being created now I don't think are like what it use to be. I do think it's more focused on money and branding then it use to be. There is still alot of very very good prep school basketball but there is so many now and alot of spots are opening up at prep schools because the way OTE is growing it has become the top prospects primary option. The top prospects are leaving or by passing prep schools for OTE so there is alot of vacancy for prep schools to fill which I think waters it down.

Well put. The lack of improvement is glaring.
