Bengals And Free Agency

Featured Replies

We won't sign any of them. I would like us to but I highly doubt that we do. Marvin has said he wants to build through the draft, not free agency...

Sam Adams is a good player but he is past his prime. Marvin will not pay high prices for players that are in their prime. But he will get players like Sam Adams and Dexter Jackson.

Sam Adams got a very nice contract. I know what you're saying, but this isn't New England. By that I mean they WILL NOT PAY ANYONE!!!! Had they paid just a few people though they might be in the Super Bowl.

True. I would love to have some of those players, I just don't think it will happen. I mean we have the money and the cap room, I just highly doubt it will happen because it hasn't before.

Which is why I drew the NE comparison. However, NE wouldn't have resigned Geathers and they wouldn't have signed Adams IMO so it's been different (similiar) here.

How can you defend the Bengals on this one, they've been below poor in the FA market, 2nd tier guys have been the staple of their signings, I wan't to see a "difference" maker, bring on AT, now that's a difference maker.

They have always been at the cap limit since Marvin has been here; that is a fact.

Who could they have signed that they chose not that would have fit under the cap?

With not signing Sapp, they were able to sign Bobbie Williams that season and make the trade for Deltha O'Neal.

You all act like there is all this unlimited money to throw around without consequences and that is just their choosing to not sign big names, which is not true.

More overgeneralizations and non-facts!

Surely he sees you have to do both.

Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl strictly through the draft!

Build through the draft and fill in those holes you have with a stud FA, it's just common sense. Why wait a year to get that next guy in the draft. Pony up the cash Mr. Brown and let's win the stinking Super Bowl, heck, let's just get there again.

There is a limit to what they can spend; this year there may be more if they choose to not sign Smith, but fans need to quit acting like the Bengals haven't spent money that was available; they have spent to their limit each and every year Marvin has been here.

The Patriots have let free agent after free agent leave. They still win. Maybe if they didn't let them all leave....

Wrong! If the prime free agents could be afforded and chose to sign here, he certainly would take them.

There is a cap; if they sign one guy to an overpriced contract, then another area of the team may suffer; then critics will be all over the Bengals for their poor special teams play or struggling offense.

They can't have big money guys at all positions; that is why Steinbach will probably not be here.

Yeah, NE lets their guys go!

Wouldn't you critics have a field day with that one!!!!!!!!!!

Deion Branch, David Givens, Willie McGinest, Ty Law

This year Tully Banta-Cain, Asante Samuel

They don't sign free agents at all, unless they come at reduced prices=-Monty Beisel, Junior Seau, Jabar Gaffney

And for some strange reason they always have a lot of talent. Remember when they had 4 DB's hurt at the same time and still had a VERY GOOD secondary.

The Bengals let theirs leave?????

Who since Marvin has been here??

Justin Smith will be the first significant contributor to leave since Takeo, and Marvin has said he wishes he would have tried harder to re-sign him, although Takeo was leaving no matter what; he was tired of the old Bengals.

They did let Mike Goff and Mark Roman go, but their guards have been fine replacements and Madieu was supposed to take Roman's spot before he got hurt in '05.

No the Patriots have let pretty much everyone leave. I thought the Bengals made a few mistakes with some of their signings. I thought Willie (who is one of my favorite players ever) was expendable. He's getting up there and he got some jack from the Bengals.
