Queen of the Commonwealth Cup

Featured Replies

The 2024 edition of the marquee in-season event in the state is coming up, December 20-23, hosted by Bullitt East.  I'm sure many of us will be making the trek down this weekend, so share your thoughts / details on the games (I'll try and get each result posted ASAP), and remember to make sure that each game has its own thread (if someone beats me to starting it, all the better).

December 20:

6:30 at MWMS:  Bethlehem vs Simon Kenton

8:00 at MWMS:  Butler vs Ashland

6:30 at EMS:  Ballard vs Notre Dame

8:00 at EMS:  Franklin-Simpson vs Taylor County

6:30 at CCC:  Cooper vs Manual (little gym, big game!)

8:00 at CCC:  Bardstown vs Southwestern

6:30 in the Main Gym:  Daviess County vs North Hardin

8:00 in the Main Gym:  Christian County vs Bullitt East

in reference to the NKY teams heading down…

If Simon Kenton shoots 59% from 3 like they did against Dixie they might win this whole thing!  It will be interesting to see how they try to quell Leah Macy.

NDA will fight but not sure how far they will go until they get their point guards back online.

Cooper game vs Manual is very intriguing.  Cooper Having 4 girls avg double digits is a nice luxury.  But Manual is avg 70 per game!

I hope a NKY team brings the cup home. Good luck ladies!

This is an interesting comment, you have my full attention Reb!  Are A-Lawrie and Lenihan due back soon?  I'm surprised Megan McGraw isn't scoring more, she is an incredible athlete and maybe the best on the ball defender in the area, figured she would be getting some buckets off of her defense.

Pandas have been playing mostly without Lenihan (concussion)and Addie Lawrie (hand). They have been using different combos to lead the offense but at times have struggled IMO. Maya Lawrie suffered an ankle injury against Dixie so not sure what her status will be. Their bench is deep but again (my opinion) they will not be full strength for the QOC.
What has been fun this year is watching the McGraw sisters play. Megan and Erin have been two of those new guards. They do a lot of things really well and make the game fun to watch!

Lenihan will be back for the QOC, but given her injury hard to know how much Coach Murphy plays her this weekend. Addie is still working through her injury, likely looking at early January. The McGraw sisters have done well in Lenihan and Lawrie's absence and are a huge part of what the Panda's want to do on both ends of the court. Megan is a phenomenal defender, Erin just understands the game. Amelia Stallard has been very solid all year as well. The weapons are there in the backcourt for the Pandas (haven't even mentioned Burden and Eberhardt), just need to figure out how to get them working together, especially against pressure. Clearly that will be HUGE against HC and Cooper (and other top teams.)

Championship game is today at 5:00 Eastern/4:00 Central as Cooper faces Franklin-Simpson. It is supposed to stream live on fschannel9.com.

Congrats to Cooper beating a very good Franklin Simpson team. Looks like it was a great game.
NKY shows up large in this tourney with a combined 10-2 record.
nice job Ladies!
