DevilMayCare
Week 11 Headlines • Douglass Gets Hard Boyled • The Purple Spirit Is Willing And Able First Team All-Watchlist Demauriah Brown (Boyle County, ATH) Season to date: 94 carries for 1,040 yards and 12 TDs | 2 receiving TDs | 24 tackles | 1 INT Highlights: vs. Douglass Second Team All-Watchlist Montavin Quisenberry (Boyle County, ATH) Season to date: 56 carries for 584 yards and 10 TDs | 42 catches for 673 yards and 11 TDs | 2 passing TDs | 1 KR TD | 28 Tackles | 3 INTs Brown (left) and Q (right). Photos courtesy of Ryan Hermens for the Herald Leader. Like shadows in a dark room, their movements were near imperceptible to the human eye. The black clad speed merchants drifted in and out of the night sky that comes earlier now, leaving the white light grasping for flesh that wasn't there. Brown and Quisenberry had become wraiths, leaving only traces of where they'd been as they hurried to where they were going. Even when Douglass defenders were able to square up contact, the legs churned additional yardage. The duo combined for 350 rushing yards, led by Brown's 214. He skirted a horde of Bronco tacklers turned spectators in the backfield before bolting 46 yards to the endzone, aided by a wicked stiff arm along the way. It was the play of the night and occurred after he picked off his first pass of the season, allowing him to single handedly turn defense to offense on consecutive plays. Flags negated some of Quisenberry's contributions to the highlight reel, though if you were watching, you know what you saw. He added a touchdown pass and 50 receiving yards to round out his night. He'll never concede the title of “best player on the field” without a fight, leaving Brown little choice but to take it from him. I doubt Quisenberry minds. With their combined forces, they rendered the Broncos stationary obstacles on a course to win #10 of 10. Third Team All-Watchlist Deuce Bailey (Bowling Green, QB) Graphic taken from Bowling Green's football x/twitter. With a shovel in his hand, the past was laid to rest. Each touchdown toss (three in total) served as a mound of dirt thrown on a horrid history against St. Xavier. Bailey had never beaten the Tigers in three previous tries, never even thrown a touchdown pass. That's all a distant memory now, after he led the Purples into Louisville and back out with a decisive victory, arguably the second greatest of his career, trailing only last year's state finals. Bailey now holds every major career passing record at Bowling Green, further cementing his place as one of the greatest to ever take a snap there. If the Purples are still standing on December 7th, we might begin referring to his stature in a more singular fashion. Season to date: Numbers are not complete - 121/192 for 2,100 yards and 34 TDs with 5 INTs | 2 rushing TDs Honorable Mention Connor Hodge (Christian Academy of Louisville, ATH) Hodge giveth, and Hodge taketh away. He threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns against Fern Creek, while also recording his 21st career interception. He's the state's active career leader in picks. Season to date: 176/256 for 2,495 yards and 25 TDs and 8 INTs | 479 rushing yards and 9 TDs | 3 INTs Cortez Stone (Central, RB) It was a landmark weekend for Stone, who gashed WEB DuBois for 203 yards and three touchdowns, moving him past 7,000 career yards and into 10th place on the all-time rushing list. He also reached 100 touchdowns accounted for in his time as a Yellow Jacket. Season to date: 148 carries for 1,600 yards and 26 TDs | 2 passing TDs Brady Atwell (Owensboro Catholic, QB) Gaphic taken from O-Cath's x/twitter. Atwell passed and ran for two touchdowns each against North Hardin. His 207 passing yards move him past 10,000 for his career. He now holds an iron fisted grip on the passing records at O-Cath. Season To Date: 148/218 for 2,245 yards and 32 TDs with 5 INTs | 333 rushing yards and 10 TDs Brenden Anthony (Pikeville, RB/LB) Anthony continues to heat up as the Panthers search for their championship form. He chewed the turf at Boyd County for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Season to date: Numbers are not complete - 108 carries for 1,003 yards and 10 TDs | 2 receiving TDs | 86 tackles | 9 TFL | 2 sacks Luke Pennington (Sayre, QB) He helped orchestrate a demolition of Bethlehem with a pair of touchdown passes. Pennington still hasn't been intercepted this season, but he recorded a theft of his own against the Eagles. It's his first of the season and eighth of his career. Season to date: 135/169 for 2,042 yards and 38 TDs with 0 INTs | 3 rushing TDs | 1 INT Brock Coffman (Sayre, ATH) Coffman caught 8 of Pennington's 10 completions for a season high 159 yards and a touchdown against Bethlehem. He leads the state in receiving touchdowns and ranks third in yards. Season to date: 65 receptions for 1,082 yards and 19 TDs | 2 KR TD | 36 tackles | 4 INTs including a pick-six Kade Elam (Corbin, QB) Elam's steady hand guided the Redhounds to victory over Pulaski County on 16 of 21 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Season to date: 156/205 for 2,649 yards and 28 TDs with 3 INTs | 293 rushing yards and 10 TDs Jarren Johnson (Union County, ATH) Owner of some of the quickest feet this side of Boyle County, Johnson has put together a season worthy of some watchlist love. His latest outing resulted in 150 yards and two touchdowns against Greenwood. His most impressive play of the night was a selfless, max effort block to help punctuate a teammate's pick-six. Season to date: 142 carries for 1,607 and 29 TDs | 321 passing yards and 4 TDs | 31 tackles | 1 INT Tyson Sammons (Greenup County, QB/S) Like Johnson, it's time to shine some light on Sammons, as well. He's all 3 Musketeers rolled into one, serving as GC's leading passer, rusher, and tackler. Sammons accounted for 329 yards of total offense and three touchdowns against Fleming County. Season to date: 94/169 for 1,448 yards and 19 TDs with 10 INTs | 103 carries for 1,387 yards and 21 TDs | 85 tackles | 3 INTs

Level of competition aside, it really is an incredible statistic. He's thrown 88 touchdowns since his last interception. You'd think somewhere along the way there would at least be a deflection that got intercepted, but no. 1

Sometimes I get tired of spitting out numbers and like to ramp up the theatricality. I was able to catch a replay late Sunday night. The all black visual presented by Boyle against the head to toe white of Douglass got it started. As Quisenberry and Brown were doing their thing, my imagination took off. Actually watching the games makes all the difference. I'm not always able to do that.
