I really can’t wait to see how the 1A postseason goes. I don’t think anyone can say that they anticipated it would be how it is, particularly in the top five. I still believe Pikeville is champ until proven otherwise, but this could be the season. I believe that Sayre, Raceland, and Campbellsville is all capable. I think some wanted to write Campbellsville off with their loss to KCD, but they are still in it in my opinion.

If ever there was a year to maybe knock off Pikeville, this seems to be it. The Panthers have five losses - albeit against good teams - and don't seem as dominant overall, even though they have found their stride the last three weeks. The list of challengers is small, solid, but also flawed. Campbellsville looked capable but losses in back-to-back weeks against the two best teams on the schedule seems an ominous trend. Kentucky Country Day won their final five games but besides the Campbellsville game, the competition was subpar. Sayre is undefeated but hasn't played anyone of note. Raceland was competitive with all the best teams on their schedule but didn't win any of them.

It is exciting and good for football in Kentucky to go into the Class 1A playoffs thinking multiple teams can win it. However, I still believe the trophy will head east to Pike County.

I agree that Pikeville is the favorite still. If there is a team or classification to say that the champ is champ until beaten, that’s clearly Pikeville and 1A. Based on what’s happened so far, my picks to beat them would be Raceland or Sayre. And I know Sayre’s strength of schedule isn’t strong, but they are still very good in my opinion and they run an awesome offense. Campbellsville did lose two games consecutively. Both were close and I was surprised they played Hart County as well and closely as they did. If they were to play KCD again, I believe Campbellsville would win. Either way it’s going to be fun seeing how it all shakes out.
