Bardstown 49 Danville 7

Featured Replies

Bardstown (7-3) manhandles Danville (0-10) in a game that had lots of penalties.  Bardstown got a running clock going on the Ads just before haltime.  It took the Ads until the fourth quarter to get a first down, but they did march down the field late for a touchdown.  Freshman quarterback Naythan Doyle was carried off the field in the first quarter, which did not help the Ads offense, which was at -5 total yards at halftime.  The Tigers played a sloppy game, flagged for their own share of penalties.  However, they were able to pile up a lot of yards on the ground for a fourth-straight win.  Ads losing streak goes to 22 games.

With only 15 seconds left in the game, Bardstown decided to run a play and scored a touchdown.  They ran their team off the field without a handshake.  That led to an argument between the head coaches at midfield where, according to the Danville radio broadcast, they bumped chests and Bardstown coach Justin Grundy had to be restrained.  Bardstown's players rushed back onto the field during this, so there could be some implications when it comes to who can play in their playoff game next week.  Awful way to end this game.

Next week Bardstown will be hosting an opponent TBD in the 4A playoffs.  Danville will travel to Fort Mitchell to play the Beechwood Tigers (9-1).

I'll be out of town on business next week so no live updates for the playoff game but our Beechwood friends here will probably take care of that.  Hard season to sit through as a fan.  All I want to say right now is that this is not Danville football.

I was in the booth. We had the benefit of one of the little walkie-talkies the officials were using. In the first quarter, the officials said “keep an eye on #7 and #21 for Danville, they are targeting #7 for Bardstown.” Heard it with my own ears. Later, Danville’s head coach was flagged for unsportsmanlike. The game got really ugly. #7 for Bardstown is our best player, and our guys were retaliating in his defense. We didn’t even put him in after halftime.

The coaches AGREED before half there would be no postgame handshake. That was over the walkie-talkie. Bardstown’s 3rd string did score the last play of the game. Danville’s coach came out to midfield animated, and both chest bumped and finger-poked Bardstown’s head coach. And yes, Coach Grundy had to be restrained. The guys from WHIR were unaware of the agreement not to shake hands. It was a good agreement. It would have been an almost-certain brawl.

I cannot believe how far the Danville program has fallen.

This is sad for Danville football! When I played at Beechwood in the early 90’s when you heard of Danville football you knew they were a powerhouse football program.

Thanks for the context.  I figured there was more to the post game stuff that Ads fans weren't hearing on the radio call.
