What are your teams doing this spring?

I know there is a hitting league going on out at KC Diamond.

With Russell, East Carter, West Carter, Rose Hill, and some other teams in it they hit for points and it is a competition. I think Rose Hill is winning.

Raceland is starting conditioning here soon. I look for the Rams to be the #2 team in the region this year. They return their 3 top pitchers from last years team that one 25 games and beat Boyd once and then took them to extra innings in the regional championship. They also are going to be really good up the middle ths year with Martin and Morris playing at SS and 2nd.

How many position players did the Rams lose from last years team?

I would think most teams have been conditioning since back in the fall. Why do the Rams wait so late to start conditioning? It is practice time here soon, not conditioning.

Because Coach Vanderhoof coaches both baseball and football, there is really not time in the fall for the rams to work out. It seems to be working out ok for them though. Even though the Rams start conditioning way later than Boyd,Russell,Greenup,Fairview, and some other 16th region schools, they were still runner-up last year and are one of the top teams in 16th year in and year out.

They are competetive year in and year out, I didn't mean to slight Raceland. Coach Vanderhoof does a great job at such a small school. I wouldn't say they are a top team year in and year out, but always competetive, a solid program.

I don't think Raceland is a top team year in year out, the only team I can think of who holds that honor is really Boyd County. Raceland does have a pretty competitive team most of the time.

Top teams IMO are....

1. Boyd County

2. Raceland

3. Ashland

4. East Carter

5. Russell

That's all a coach can ask for, expect from his team is to be competitive each year and be solid.

School size, certainly is a factor in being a perennial power. Larger schools can afford players, not playing multiple sports....smaller schools, often rely on a corps group of players, to participate in all 3 major sports.

With that said, I know for certain that Boyd County works as hard, conditions, practices and is prepared as well, as any team in the state. Being around players with great work ethic, combined with coaches....will make teams competitive, solid and contenders each year.

Well said.

How many position players did the Rams lose from last years team?

They lost their top three hitters (Tolliver-SS,Miller-CF,and Darby-C). Also lost a very under rated pitcher in Reynolds.

Thanks, and yes Reynolds was a very good pitcher and I think also, underated.

How many 16th region teams headed to Cocoa Beach this year, there are usually several?

Rose Hill will be going to Myrtle Beach this year.

This is the best turnout for ballplayers they have had in a long time. They actually have enough for a j.v. team and a varsity team.

JMO, But the 16th appears to be a little weak this year, on paper anyway. Several teams hit pretty hard by graduation.
