The Rockets were 9-1 last year during the regular season, losing only to Paris. Most notably, Rockcastle beat eventual 3A runners-up Bell County 40-38 during the regular season. Lexington Catholic ended the Rockets season in the third round of the playoffs by arriving at The Rock and absolutely dismantling Rockcastle, handing them a 43-7 home loss.

Rockcastle graduated all of their offensive yardage-producers, including QB Tucker Warren, who passed for over 2000 yards last year and rushed for a team-leading 1100 yards. RB Anthony Goodin, who was their #2 rusher, WR Caleb Moore, who led the team with over 1000 yards receiving, ATH Christian Larkey, who was their #3 rusher and #2 in receiving.....all lost to graduation. To say that the Rockets offense is looking at a rebuilding year this year is definitely putting it gently.

Hard to picture Rock duplicating last year's success.

The schedule was a lightning rod for criticism, and deservedly so. They played two teams that made it out of the first round of the playoffs, and it showed against LexCath.

Larkey will win games there, but they need to get out of their comfort zone if they want to take the next step. Obviously they're stuck in the middle of a two year cycle, but that might actually play to their benefit with several crucial positions featuring new faces this year. But beyond this season.... I'd like to see them reach out to local schools - Pulaski County, Somerset, Southwestern, Madison Central, or venture east in the direction of Pikeville, Belfry, etc. I think those games are attainable. Certainly better postseason prep than Pineville and Grant County - apologies to the Mountain Lions and Braves for catching strays.

They won't have the year they had last year, but I think they would be fine with just keeping the culture changing and working for the future.  Just trying to get back to the Rockcastle of old.  We shall see.
