I think if Raceland played the same zone as they did against Rose Hill , they could beat Russell.

How much of a factor was Russell's size advantage? Was Vanderhoof healthy? How about Raceland's perimeter shooters?

 

 

Okoro and Fortman were both tough underneath. Paige Porter hit two threes and Vanderhoof one, I believe.

Both teams seemed to do a little pancake impression in the first half. (FLAT)

Russell probably should have outrebounded Raceland by more, but I give

credit to the Lady Rams' tenacity. I know Raceland has some size, too, but

there were quite a few rebounds that were simply won by Raceland's effort.

With as much as it seemed everyone from the Raceland coach to the fans

were pointing this out, you would have thought the refs might have watched

that.

 

At one point one person on the Raceland side screamed it, and after that

every time she looked at the lane, two or three people were yelling.

:thumb: This is the main reason (besides obvious talent) that I think that Raceland can play and beat anyone in the region. The Lady Rams always play hard, hustle and usually out work the their opponet. They will not quit or "lay down" if and when they fall behind. The Lady Rams play as a "Team", they win as a team and lose as a team. Russell is a very talented, well coached team and imo will and should be the regional favorite, RH is very talented along with a couple of others but as I have said before I wouldn't count Raceland out at all. Very talented, well coached and play as a team with all out heart and desire. Congrats to Russell on the win.

I thought that Fortman did a tremendous job for Russell scoring underneath in the first half, but that Raceland's hussle/rebounding really kept the game close going into halftime. In the second half I was impressed by Raceland freshman Brooke Keeton. She seems to be getting better and better as the season progresses. I think she could be a real force for the next 3 years.

 

Raceland was forced to press at the end of the game which allowed Fortman and Orkoro to get some fastbreak points that contributed to the Russell win.

 

On a side note - Over the past few weeks I have notices a lot of posts (in both the boys and girls forum) about inappropriate fan behavior. I just want to say that I thought both the Raceland and Russell fans were very well behaved last night. This is refreshing to see, especially during a rivalry game.

I agree with all points that you made here I.F. and from what I heard that Fortman also did a great defensive job keeping Raceland's Rachel Vanderhoof somewhat in check. I was also glad to hear that the fans from both sides acted in respectful manner.:thumb:

I agree Rambler. Fortman is always a force on both ends of the court. For her to hold Vanderhoof in check offensively is definitely an achievement.
