Lefty Driesell dies at 92

Featured Replies

He coached some dynamite players while at Maryland.   Len Elmore, John Lucas, Tom McMillen, Buck Williams, Len Bias.   He also won 100 games at 4 different schools (Davidson, Maryland, James Madison and Georgia State.)

RIP Coach

I remember when he proclaimed that he was going to build Maryland into the “UCLA of the East.” He had some very talented teams during his career but I don’t think he ever won an NCAA title.

He never did.  He had a few teams that were capable, but never did win it.

He probably had some good teams that never made the NCAA tourney because of the way it used to be set up.   It didn't expand to 64 teams until 1985 and he was out at Maryland after the 86 season.

He had a great team in 74 but only one could go to tourney and David Thompson kept him out.

I seem to recall he had a great team in Davidson but didn’t make the tournament
