Now why is it that some of the public schools mentioned in the article are complaining that private schools dont have a true district .

Actually, this is a legitimate question.

Most of the "musical chairs" is clearly played from public to public and not from public to private.

It appears that we have school choice as long as it doesn't include private schools.

Here we go..

I was actually quite surprised by the large numbers of students going to public schools out of their district listed in the article.

I have no problem with those students going anywhere they want to go.

All I am saying is---IF your school is enrolling that many students out of district without paying tuition, dont complain about private schools having some great advantage because they dont have a limited distict.

Nothing more--Nothing less.:thumb:

You haven't seen me complain one bit, nor will you. It's a tired debate that the private school people have been clinging onto for way to long now. I registered with BGP in August of 2001, this same topic was being debated a year before I joined the site, it's time to put it to rest. A lot of people locally, feel that the county school systems are not on the same level as some of the other local districts. That's a big reason you see the numbers in favor of the city schools.

T-Cat I don't think any of this commentary is directed at you in particular. I think S&M was speaking in general terms.

I still say someone at Boyd and Greenup need to wake up and smell the coffee. They are getting hosed.

It's poor decision making by the administrators, that's for sure. But the way I look at it, if the administrators of those systems aren't smart enough to make good decisions, you can't blame the kids parents for wanting to transfer their kids out.

I sure can't argue with that.

I agree 100%. FWIW, I'm for being able to choose the best school for your children and if the county schools are lacking then parents should be able to move their children.

If I were in charge of Boyd and Greenup I would be taking a close look at what is causing this mass exodus.

From what you hear and read, it may be concluded that Boyd's administration is too busy "accommodating" certain types of " diversity" and everyone at Greenup is too busy accommodating its cheerleaders. There is no time for important matters.

Greenup has also been very busy putting their basketball coach on "double secret probation."

Just to make sure it is clear, the money does not automatically follow the student to the out of district school system. The school system the student lives in has to agree for it to follow. Some do, some don't. About 10 years back Robertson County, Deming, did not allow the money. Our school district was going to charge tuition for the teachers in OUR district if there kids attended school here while living in Robertson County.

Our school board changed their mind when they realized they were going to lose good teachers and good students that would help with the CATS scores.

Since Boyd County and Greenup County must agree to give up the money, they are, indeed, even less intelligent than was first determined. To call them incompetent would be a compliment.

So in your book its OK for a school to allow students from anywhere to improve CAT scores but not touchdowns. You seem to worry about the void of touchdowns at the old school but have no concern about the void of CAT scores.

Unless you are assuming that I was on the school board, I was not involved in that decision making.

I would have allowed it because it would be the right thing to do for your employee. Having their child on the same calendar as them would be a positive and would retain employees rather than run them off. When we have a snow day, they have a snow day. When we are at school, their kid is at school.

BTW, the state has made it the PRIMARY goal of schools to produce a test score not TD's. If you think I agree with the direction the state has taken public schools, you have not read my posts in almost any education-themed thread. I guarantee you that our principal will NOT lose his/her job if the football team has a losing record for 2-3-4 years straight. But those test scores fall below our goal for 2-3-4 years straight and they will lose their job.
