The North Oldham Mustangs and the Oldham County Colonels square off for just the 11th time on Friday at newly-refurbished Bell Field in Buckner, with the all-time series currently tied at 5 wins apiece.  (Oldham County has won the last five meetings).

Both teams have made great strides this year under first year coaches, despite very young rosters.    BROCK ROBERTS has already equaled the Mustangs' victory total of five wins last year, and this year, though the Mustangs will go into the Class 4A playoffs round one on the road, they will almost certainly enter the postseason first round as the favorites over Jeffersontown.   (the two teams each played DeSales, with North beating the Colts and Jtown losing to DeSales).   Mustang fans are excited that their team has a strong chance of recording its first playoff win since the 2014 team went all the way to the Class 4A semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Oldham County - which last year suffered through its first winless season since 1979 - is showing signs of life under first year head coach SEAN LITTLE.   The Colonels have only 3 wins on the season, but that's a nice jump up from last year's painful 0-11 campaign.    The Colonels are bound for a really tough Class 6A playoff matchup with St. X on the road, but a win over cross-county rival North Oldham would extend Oldham's winning streak in the series to six, and guarantee them at least a 4-game improvement over last season.

The matchups will be interesting.....   North's three-year starting QB, senior Jace Bullock, has been brilliant at times throwing the ball, passing for 1,798 yards on the season with 21 TDs and only 5 picks, while completing 60.4% of his passes.   Noah Leber, Dawson Nagle, and Kyle Mack have all been solid receivers - often coming out of the backfield - but it's been Gray Schmittel that has really starred, snagging 62 passes for 703 yards and 8 TDs - in just 6 games.    Schmittel averages 117 yards receiving per contest.   Sophomore Lucas Tompkins provided the Mustangs with a solid deep threat, but a broken collarbone has ended his season.   North has relied on the passing game a lot; the running game is averaging less than 60 yards a contest.

Oldham will counter with the power running of Caden Sheppard, who has 825 yards rushing and 8 TDs, and averages over 103 yards a game.    Defensively, the chess game will match two talented junior secondary players for Oldham County - Miller Brown and David Turner - against Bullock and the Mustang passing attack.   Brown (4 INT) and Turner (3 INT, 1 TD) have preyed on opposing passers all year, and both have the speed to turn a simple pick into a defensive score.

Broadcast time is 7 pm ET on www.pegasussportsky.com, the only option streaming in 1080p....
