Last week was full of open weeks but this week should be really interesting. CAL and Central are probably playing to see who is the 3A favorite, Lloyd is looking to prove they’re a top tier 3A team, Hart and Glasgow have playoff implications in their game, and Franklin-Simpson is stepping up in class for a challenge to their undefeated season. 

Mercer County #5 in Tiger94 ratings, 6 in Massey, 6 in Calpreps.

 

Lloyd Memorial not top 10 in Massey, nor CalPreps.  #9 in Tiger94 ratings.

Not sure how Lloyd is in top 10 much less #5, and how Mercer is still not in top 10.

 

Don’thave a dog in fight but both of these are head scratchers to me.

I think the Mercer/Lloyd comparison is a fair one. In Mercer's case, they've played one really good team (Southwestern) and were blown out and one solid team (Taylor County) and won. Lloyd has only played one solid team (Newport Central Catholic) and they won, although I'd definitely rank both Southwestern and Taylor ahead of Mercer.

I'm of the belief of two things regarding Class 3A:

• We'll know a whole lot more about Lloyd after their game with Lexington Catholic this week. I wouldn't be surprised if they fall out of the top ten completely if they lose big. Of course they could also be competitive or even win.
• Every team ahead of Mercer keeps winning. Union, Franklin-Simpson, and Hart are all undefeated and have played good ball. It would be hard to put Mercer in front of them. Rockcastle has a win at Bell and I'm not sure I'd pick Mercer to win at Bell (which means Bell should stay ahead of Mercer). And the top four (CAL, LexCath, Central, and Belfry) each seem a tier ahead of those teams 5-10.

Bottom line, Mercer is good, but they're kind of caught up in a logjam.
