Belfry 48 Breathitt County 14

Final. Strong opener by the perennial power from Pond Creek. @nikeman49 had this one from the start. All Pirates, all the time.

I saw some very, very promising performances from Belfry.

Three,,, maybe four (depending on definition) TD passes from Belfry.

This was a running clock early in the 3rd on the road against a team entering the season with lots of optimism.

Belfry staff has put in a ton of effort to enrich the offense and add passing components. They also have made some defensive adjustments I liked a lot.

I won’t say I saw a championship caliber Belfry team, but they looked solid and looked improved over last year.

For week one the Bucs looked pretty good. Offense showed some new wrinkles and looked very cohesive.

No turnovers and no punts by the first team, very few penalties.

Depth is an issue, especially in the secondary. Losing Caden Varney is a blow.  Not to mention it was on a blind cheap shot 40 yards away from the play. ? Young guys are going to have to grow up quick.  Should be fun to watch.

The competition level gets tougher the next few weeks. Iron sharpens Iron.
