Position Head Coach

Can you give the readers a little background on your coaching career? Where all have you coached, and what positions have you held at each stop?

I have been the head coach at Doss High School (Louisville), Apollo High School (Owensboro), and currently coach at Bryan Station High School (Lexington).

Heading into the 2022 season, what were your biggest concerns?

1. High strength of schedule 2. OL Experience

After all the practices leading up to the first game of the season, which player or players stuck out the most? Explain.

JT Haskins Jr., DB; Dahvon Frazier, OLB/H; Jahvon Frazier, DE; Jason Hocker, LB; Gary McCauley, OT; Trenton Cutwright, QB Each of these players entered their junior seasons with high expectations, and each delivered early on in the preseason. They had all grown and brought a lot of talent with them.

What will you remember most about the class of 2023?

This class helps us rebuild this program. They were the fewest in numbers but gained a lot of respect from their teammates. They played hard in every game.

What were the high and low moments of the 2022 season?

The lowest moment had to be starting 0-3. The highest moment would definitely have been beating Trinity in the regional final.

What was the most challenging part of the 2022 season?

Three of our four losses came from eventual state champions in their classes.

Who was the best player Bryan Station faced last season, and which team did he play for?

Travis Egan, Bullitt East

What were the two or three main goals you set for the 2022 team? Also, did they hit those goals?

Win District (yes), Win Regional Final (Yes) State Championship appearance (No. Lost in Semi Final

What did you learn about yourself during the 2022 season that you can use to be a better coach this season?

I think it is important to do what your kids do best. Sometimes we get lured into thinking we can do things with our team that we cannot. I also learned how amazing kids can be and how, when faced with tough situations, they can overcome them.

Can you tell us which seniors from last season will be moving on to play college ball and list the colleges too?

Damin Green, Kentucky, Kyzuan Butler-Mount St. Joseph, Colton Esenbock-Thomas Moore, Zechariah Dabney-Thomas Moore, Brydon Simpson-Hanover, Nikolas Dixon-Centre, Jeremiah Mundy-Lloyd-Hutchinson, Jayquise Young-Pikeville, Japhet Moma-Thomas Moore, Larry Wilkerson-KCU, Jayden Walker-KCU
