All State Baseball
This week, the 14th region seen several top teams pick up losses. Did that effect their ranking this week? Did any of the bottom teams make any movement? Let's take a look and see. Two coaches picked up career wins, 1) Hazard (10-2): Coach Al Holland reached a huge milestone this past week, picking up career win #700 as his Bulldogs rolled past district rival, Leslie County 69-51. Bulldogs have won 7 straight games. 2) Perry County Central (7-10): The Commodores have now dropped 6 of they're last 7 games including another defeat at the hands of George Rogers Clark, the team that eliminated them from the state tournament last season, 69-48. The Commodores, did however, pick up a huge road win at Breathitt County on a game winning three by sophomore guard, Trayten Woods. 3) Breathitt County (8-6): The Bobcats have dropped 4 of they're last 6 games including a heart breaking loss to Perry County Central as they're come back efforts from 14 down, on a three at the buzzer. Breathitt had the ball and a 2 point lead in the closing seconds but took an ill-advised shot that allowed Perry to come down, take a three as the buzzer sounded that would go in, propelling Perry to the 56-55 win. Breathitt County would take they're frustrations out on district rival, Jackson City, defeating the Tigers 84-58. 4) Letcher County Central (10-5): Letcher County Central has won 8 of they're last 10 games, including a three game win streak including a 62-48 win over Clay County last week. This week gets a little tougher for the Cougars. 5) Estill County (8-6): Engineers split all four games last week, picking up wins over Powell County 68-51 and a road win at Greenup County 64-55 both in the KY 2A Section 6 tournament. The Engineers would fall on the road in a big district game at Lee County 60-58 after a coast-to-coast layup by Lee County. Engineers would face former 10th region foe Mason County on Saturday at Greenup County in the KY 2A Section 6 Championship 78-58. That's two straight losses for Estill. 6) Wolfe County (9-7): Wolves starting to get hot, winning 5 of they're last 6 games. Wolfe split two games last week, falling 65-46 on the road at Magoffin County. Wolfe County would bounce back and pick up a 86-70 win over Menifee County. In the win over Menifee County, Coach Creech picked up his career win #300. 7) Lee County (8-7): The Bobcats made a big surprise this past week, when they picked up a 60-58 win over district rival Estill County. The Bobcats also picked up a win over Buckhorn 88-83. With the wins, Lee County has now won 3 straight . 8 ) Knott County Central (5-9): Knott County Central split two games this past week, falling 67-59 on the road at Betsy Layne but picking up a much needed district win over Cordia 68-12. 9) Powell County (5-8): The Pirates improved two 2-0 in district play this past week when they defeated Owsley County 85-61. The Pirates fell to district foe Estill County 68-51 last week but that game does not count towards district standings as it was a tournament game. 10) Leslie County (9-8): The Eagles split two games last week, falling 69-51 to district foe Hazard. Leslie County would bounce back and pick up a 63-38 win over Owsley County. The Eagles have now won 6 of they're last 8 games. 11) Buckhorn (7-6) 12) Owsley County (3-12) 13) Jackson City (3-11) 14) Cordia (0-15) Notable Games This Week 1/9-1-14: Monday: Hazard at Lee County (14th Region All "A") Tuesday: Perry County Central at Letcher County Central Wednesday: Owsley County at Cordia (14th Region "A" Classic) Friday: Letcher County Central at Buckhorn, Powell County at Estill County. nikeman49
PCC has lost 6 of 7 and still #2? That’s a head scratcher. And Wolfe Co. should be ahead of Estill Co. IMO

Perry Central’s best player, guard Braxton Beverly, has been out of the lineup with an ankle injury for about 2 weeks when a lot of those losses occurred. nikeman49
Estill Co loses to Lee Co, PCC losses without Beverly still counts until his return.
