Warren Central 64 Western 57

In a marquee matchup of the #2 and #7 ranked teams in the state, the Dragons emerged victorious in a hotly contested game.  Central never trailed, but the majority of the game was in single digits.  Chappelle Whitney led all scorers with 26 points.  He got just about anything he wanted - his foul trouble was the only thing that slowed him down at all.  He had two fouls in the first four minutes of the game, and played most of the second quarter anyway.  He picked up his fourth foul at the beginning of the fourth, and still stayed on most of the game.  Lawson led Western with 17 points.

This was exactly the type of game Warren Central needed. Western played aggressive defense, played with pace, attacked Central’s defense in a way they haven’t seen so far this year. And while the game was played at a neutral site in Bardstown, it absolutely felt like a true road game. Western brought a good contingent who were very loud and vocal. Central has proven very resilient in the past two seasons to those environments, but you can never have too much testing of that. The Dragons are still without Kade Unseld, one of their top scorers, so this was also a great test to have when they’re short handed.

This was the first game this year that Warren Central never trailed in, but ironically, it was the first game in the second half I felt they could truly lose. I don’t believe Western ever had possession with a chance to tie or take the lead in the second half, but it was constant pressure till the end.

I'm not up to date and I wasn't aware Unseld was out.  This was an impressive win regardless, but with Unseld out in this one, the Dragons have to really feel confident!

I'm thinking that WC is #1 in the commonwealth.
