Beechwood 34 Simon Kenton 14 (JV)

Featured Replies

Beechwood leads 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Cash Harney has 2 30+ yard TD runs. Simon Kenton keeps giving Beechwood good field position by going for it on 4th down on each of their drives and are 0 for 3 on those and one pass was intercepted.

27-7 Tigers at half. Zander Riegler had a touchdown run and as the time expired in the half Cash Harney hit Zander in the end zone for a 16 TD. Simon Kenton was able to move the ball well through the air on their TD drive.

Do we have a final on this game?

I think I have the final score right, anyone?

Yes, that is the final score. Simon Kenton added a TD in the 4th quarter after Beechwood started rotating in players.

I do not understand these coaches that go for it on 4th down in their own territory. It is a bit of a trend. Personally, I feel it is a disservice to your team to put them in such a terrible situation. On one of the possessions it was 4th and about 20 in their own territory and SK still went for it on 4th. When Beechwood led 21-0, I don't think they had 100 yards offense because SK kept giving them the ball in their own territory. Is it because the coach has no confidence in the defense and feels like he must score on every possession? Someone explain it to me because it makes zero sense to me.

Trust me...we don't understand either. It's been like that all season for SK JV and Freshman. It's not like they don't have anyone who can't punt at these levels either.

I have no doubt this would have been a closer game if SK did not go for it on 4th down like they did. I don't think the result changes, but SK would've had a better chance of winning. Punt the ball when they should have and Beechwood has to cover a hundred yards more to score their first 2-3 TD's. That is more plays, more chances for stops for the SK defense or perhaps a mistake or two by Beechwood that stops a drive and forces them to punt.

I made this comment in the Beechwood Dixie varsity game thread. Teams that run the hurry up offense and go for it on 4th are just hurrying themselves into a running clock.
