#1 Pikeville welcomes in district rival and #4 Hazard to Hambley Field for the district championship. Pikeville has been an absolute machine since starting the season  losing its first two games of the season. Hazard has two losses on the season too.

Pikeville is averaging close to 40 points per game. The defense is giving up just 15 points per game.

Hazard is averaging close to 29 points per game. The defense is giving up close to 24 points per game.

Hazard's best effort could keep this from getting out of hand. They're good enough to at least accomplish that, but Pikeville is the superior football team right now. The last few weeks have teased the separation between these two. If Pikeville means business tonight from the opening kick, that separation will be driven home.

Mr. Football Spotlight Game

The two best running backs in 1A square off tonight. Birchfield left no doubt who was #1 last year, showing up Johnson both times they met. Johnson needs another night like he had last week (238 yards and four touchdowns) to give Hazard a chance.

The last time Hazard beat Pikeville, which many remember was 2020 in the playoffs. Hazard as a team rushed for 139 yards. Max Johnson had 23 carries for 107 yards and 1 touchdown. Hazard threw for 143 yards. Max Johnson had 3 catches for 54 yards. Now on Defense Max lead the team that game with 9 tackles, He also added 2 INTs for 57 yards and one was taken back for a pick 6.

As stated Hazard will need Max to step up big to get a win tonight. Hazard will also need other players to contribute to help. Landon Smith didn’t look real good but it was his first game back from the knee injury and he didn’t seem like his old self. 
Big kid and big target to throw too if he is on. Hopefully hazard has all its starters back this week for this one. Quarterback played defense last week for the first time in the outside linebacker spot. I will try to get an update on that shortly.
