Raceland Schedule 2007

I would say this will be the most attended game in the area. I can't wait. People from both schools have been waiting for this game for a long time.

I heard some people were planning a lot of festivities for the week leading up to this game.:ylsuper:

My guess is ole Ivan will prepare the same way he always does and there wont be much pomp and circumstance for this matchup in the Russell community.

Business as usual. Line up and play.

The "Pomp and circumstance" that I was speaking of was planned by Russell business men and the Russell Athletic Director.

John Norman and Sam Sparks, according to John, are planning a parade and some kind of cook out leading up to the game.

It is not to divide, but to bring the two communities together, since most of the fans know most of the fans from the other team.

Maybe our old buddy TBF could join in the lovefest by giving all fans free T shirts for the game.

I'm at a loss, who is TBF. But John did tell me he was trying to get other local bussiness to help. Danny Mercer is going to provide a traveling trophy and the series is supposed to be known as "The Choo-Choo Classic". John picked the name.

The parde sounds like a good idea. Let's hope it is a different date than the famous ritual of "Burning The Devil" that us Oldramblers are accustomed to attending. I'm to old to attend two events on the same night.

You have plenty of time to rest up.

I like he idea of the community hype, but the "choo choo" part will have to grow on me. Weren't names for this game discussed during this past football season?

:thumb: I agree with you on the "choo choo", it belongs in Chattanooga!!!!

I hope there is more discussion on the name.

I hear ya cville:lol: , you can count me in on the too old for all events group also. With my physical limitations I will be lucky to make it to the game. I also agree with TRR in that I wish this game could had been played last season. Both teams were very strong and imo it would had been one heck of a football game. I also remember the "Burn the Devil" nights very well. Even from when I was very young and someone would have to lift me up on their shoulders to get a better view. I will be looking to see if I can locate the history of this series and will post it when I can. GO RAMBLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:flame:

:thumb: I agree incognito. I am not that fond of "Choo Choo Classic" either. My idea was "The Rail Cities Classic" for the ties that both communities have to the railroad. I don't guess that it matters though as long as it is finally here. I do know one person that will be thrilled and that is Bill Tom Ross. Coach Ross begged for this game from the mid 80's on with no compliance.

These two teams started playing in 1926 and it ran through 1974.

Russell leads the overall series 26-15-7.

The largest margin of victiory that I could find was one by Raceland in 1943 by the score of 43-0 after beating the Red Devils 26-0 earlier in that same season.

Russell won games in: 1926,29,30,31,32,35,36,37,38,40,44,45,51,52,54,55,56,59,60,62,67,70,71,72,73, and 74.

Raceland won in 1933,42,43 (twice),46,47,48,49,50,53,57(oldramblers birth year:ylsuper: ), 61,64,65 and 69.

The two tied in 1934,39,41,58,63,66 and 68

Thanks to cvillecat and his 17 family members that that have played for the Ramblers and Rams through the years that have helped in finding this info.

I hope these are accurate and listed properly, the OldRamblers fingers and brain are tired after all of this, I need a nap.:D

This was John Norman's idea, I don't know if that will be the final name or not. Stop in and tell John your idea, maybe he will like it better.

Personally, I wanted to have a county camtionship. Raceland and Russell already each play Greenup County, so who ever beats the other two wins the "County Championship". Tie breaker whould be whoever has the best record.
