Sorry for dropping names…. But a night I’ll never forget…Talking football w/ Dr. Steve R. Parker, Frank Minnifield & Derrick Ramsey. Yes, you read that right!

The good news… you can hear the entire conversation… TH, 3/9, 7:30 pm!

7:30 PM.... KICK OFF!!!

Eat your Wheaties... big show tonight:

The case for Coach Blanton Collier... why he belongs in

@ProFootballHOF. In this graphic, he is the only one not in Canton. George Allen is only coach on that list without an NFL championship, but is in the Hall of Fame.

Get Derrick Ramsey's & Steve Parker's reaction after facing Condredge Holloway(Tennessee Football), the first African-American QB in the SEC. Even better, what was on Derrick's mind after they played & what did his Dad tell him on the phone?

Question from Franky Minnifield for Derrick Ramsey:

Kentucky did not have a history of African-American QB's. Why did you choose UK? Old #12 will answer that question.

According to Frank Minnifield, how good was Jacob Tamme

in the NFL ?

Get those details tonight @ 7:30 pm on The Coaches' Office: Behind the Scenes of KY HS w/ Chuck Smith & David Buchanan

Down the road, would make a great conversation for our podcast....analytics!

https://edjvarsity.com/blog/how-coaches-are-turning-analytics-into-action/

Did you ever go of a situation chart, like we see coaches on Saturday and Sundays? As a coach you should be able to see and feel how you’re players would do in certain situations.

We would do...

1- scripted plays for the following situations: 3rd/4th & short; 3rd/4th & long; 3rd & medium; redzone; goalline; coming out, etc.

2-analytics could tell us on 1st down if we were in 4 down territory or 3 down

3-analtytics could recommend go for it or punt on 4th down. Some times, the difference was minimal in terms of predicted game winning percentage

4-ultimately would go with my gut. All of those were tools. But, it is on me and our staff to make the correct and best decision. No hiding behind analytics after a loss. Guys that do that do not need to be a head coach.

Hope this answers your question. The analytics is a great tool, but it is not a decision maker and it is not the head coach.  Ultimately, the head coach must own everything that happens in their program.  Mistakes will happen and problems will arise for everyone(even Saban & Belichick).. it is all in how they are addressed and handled.
