Jep Irwin has stepped down as football coach of the Cardinals to become the school's Athletic Director. 

Lots of turnover there in recent years. They've had a couple of good teams and gave Pulaski County all they wanted in a regular season game a few years back, but their last playoff victory was in the old Class AAAA in 2005 and the last winning record was 6-5 in 2007. After utilizing the wide open passing attack to relatively good success back in the late-90s its been pretty barren ever since.

They're 3-28 over the last three years and NL has the upper hand in the county right now. The Jags beat the brakes off the Cardinals last year and could be in for more of the same this season. This is a tough job to step into right now, with a district that includes strong programs like Pulaski, Southwestern, and an upward trending NL.

Makes sense. I'm sure Irwin would want to have the football ducks in a row before moving to the AD spot.

Allen Mitchell has been named the new Head Coach at South Laurel.  Per twitter @13thRegionMediaNetwork.

Mitchell has been on the staff at South Laurel for a few years. This is his first head coaching gig. He was previously an assistant at Corbin, Whitley County, Lynn Camp, and Perry County Central. The inside hire will allow for continuity and a smooth transition for the players after a coaching move this late in the off-season.
