It seems like every thread about a coach search has people freaking out because the next coach hasn't been named yet, even just a couple weeks after the previous coach left. People slamming school administrations and search committees for following processes and making a thoughtful search for a coach who might be leading student athletes for years to come. People wanting to just hand off the job to someone else on staff without even opening it up to outside candidates. Let's see if we can help.

The inability to understand or appreciate the process like a coaching search is a microcosm of today's society. People want things done now, without regard for doing things the right way. The Media believes it is better to be first, than it is to be right. The proper time frame for a coaching search is 30 - 45 days if the administration is going to do their due diligence and get the right hire for a position. Anything longer than that includes the risk of losing the best candidates to other jobs. The admin should always appoint an assistant to run the weight program and be the contact person for recruiting, parental questions, etc. This can sometimes serve as a trial for an inside candidate to see how they deal with situations. Overall, most school administrator's are doing the best thing for the school by taking their time. 

The freakout is just another example the collegiate football program creeping further into highschool sports.  Parents are disillusioned to the idea that a high school football program is similar to or like a college program.  In the 24 hour news cycle world we live in impatience is at an all time high.  People have a microwave mindset ZERO Patience.   There isnt but a couple of football programs in the commonwealth that is remotely close to a div 3 level college.   You have seen high school coaches fired after 2 years, ZERO Loyalty, and no patience building programs...why would these parents and administrators be any different.  we wont even get into the inflated value, prestige, or clout of their schools and programs.  

 

What was said that all falls under the umbrella of for show and sounding good.  Immediate hires. Immediate success. Making sure you’re doing your “install” in January and February , along w other cool terms like that nowadays.  Seeing how many times you can use the the phrase “the grind” in a conversation. “No days off” mentality and anything else that sounds/looks good.
