Notes:

-It was a pretty static week in terms of expected results.  The top three teams went a combined 8-0.  The only intra-region result that went against ranking was #15 Allen County-Scottsville at #13 Monroe County.  The Patriots had already won a result between the two at home, but got this one done on the road.  It was an extremely low-scoring affair, with Monroe County leading 14-13 at the half before the Patriots surged in front in the third, and held off the Falcons by a 40-39 score.  It was the 8th consecutive win over Monroe County for the Patriots, and will almost certainly mark their final district game with the Falcons, who will return to the 16th District next year.  The only way the two play again is if they meet in the district finals.  The 40 points were the lowest by the winning team in the series between the two during the Riherds scoreboard era.

-Greenwood survived a game attempt by Barren County on Tuesday, winning on the road by a 44-32 score.  The 44 points were the fewest in a win under Coach Will McCoy, and just the 8th win in program history when scoring that many or fewer.  It helped that the 32 points they held Barren County to also equaled the fewest allowed by Greenwood under Will McCoy.  The Gators in recent years have not been known for their defensive grinds like they once were, but this was a successful throwback.  Greenwood's next win will give them their first 20 win season since 2011/12 - that will certainly come on Monday when they host winless Logan County.

-Warren Central got a much needed resurgence in the latter half of the week.  After marching through their first 11 games with an average margin of victory of 18.5 PPG, they failed to win by that amount or greater in the five games since returning from a COVID break.  That included a surprisingly difficult game at Christian County on Monday where they needed an 8-2 run to break a tie and get the win.  Two games against Warren East were just what the doctor ordered, as it was plain to see the Dragons were playing with more energy and featuring the style that rolled up those early wins.  Their 50 point win at Warren East on Wednesday represented the worst loss for the Raiders at home in 18 years.  It made the 33 point win at home on the 4th look modest by comparison, but still a dominant effort for Central in what may well be the final district matchup they'll ever play with their rivals of 53 years.  Finally, they dealt a solid Bardstown team a 27 point defeat, the worst of the season for the Tigers.  Central is heating back up at a good time.

-Todd County Central has a critical game coming up Monday when they visit Franklin-Simpson.  With a win there, they can force a likely tie for the top seed in the district.  More than that, it would give them their 20th win on the season, a mark they haven't achieved since the 2001/02 season.  That was the last year Todd County Central made a region final, and the only time they've ever been the top seed in the 13th District tournament.  Their 19 wins this year already exceed the previous three years combined.  Even if they were to lose to Franklin-Simpson, locking them into a district tourney matchup with Russellville, they just flexed their might over the Panthers this week with a pair of wins in three days. 

-For all but the 14th District, this week has the final district games, and the postseason picture will crystallize following them.  The 15th District postseason matchups are already set.  Barren County is a perfect 6-0 in district play, and will meet Monroe County in the district semifinal, as the Falcons finished 0-6 in the district.  Allen County-Scottsville will meet host Glasgow in the tournament, and coincidentally the two have two matchups this week as well.  That means the two will meet three times in the next 2.5 weeks. 

The 13th District likely comes down to Monday's matchup between Franklin-Simpson and Todd County Central.  If Franklin wins, the matchups are set, and they'll be the 1 seed outright.  If Todd County Central wins, then we'll see if Franklin defeats Russellville on Friday (they should) and Todd County Central defeats Logan County on Friday as well (they will).  That would push the 1 seed to a coin flip.  Russellville is locked in to the 3 seed at 2-3 in district play - the best they could do would be a tie with Todd Central if they lose out, but the Rebels have a season sweep for the tiebreaker.  Logan County is locked into the 4 seed at 0-5 in the district.

The 16th district, as usual, has games that could cause upheaval, even if we can reasonably confident in who will ultimately go to the region tournament from the teams.  Clinton County hosts Metcalfe County on Monday.  The Bulldogs enter at 5-0 in district play while Metcalfe County is 4-1.  The two actually have split two meetings this year, but Metcalfe County's win came in the All "A" region tournament, which doesn't count towards the district standings.  If Clinton County wins, the 1 seed is theirs.  If Metcalfe County wins, it goes to a coin flip.  The two will almost certainly go to the region tournament when all is said and done, but it's still a little intrigue.  Cumberland County visits Russell County on the same night.  If Cumberland County wins, they'll clinch the 3 seed.  If Russell County wins, it goes to a coin flip.

Finally, there's the 14th District.   Bowling Green is the leader in the clubhouse at 6-2.  For them to clinch the #1 seed outright, they'd need Greenwood to lose to both Warren East and Warren Central.  Since it is all but certain Greenwood won't lose to Warren East, that leaves the more plausible scenario of Bowling Green hoping to win a coin flip on a three way tie.  Greenwood is the leader in reality.  Their 5-1 record and win over Bowling Green in the second game (the absolutely mind-numbingly DUMB tiebreaker the 14th District now uses) puts them in the driver's seat for the 1 seed.  If they win out, they win it outright, no tiebreakers.  If they lose to Warren East but beat Warren Central, same scenario, since they'd tie Bowling Green and own the tiebreaker.  So with a win against Warren East on Friday, the worst they can do is a three-way tie for the 1 seed.  For Warren Central, a three-way tie for the 1 seed is the best they can do.  There is no scenario for them to win the 1 seed without the benefit of that scenario.  They sit at 4-2 in district play.  If they win out, it means they dealt Greenwood a loss in addition to beating South Warren, putting them at 6-2.  If Greenwood loses to Warren East (falling to 5-3 total), that means Central would be tied with Bowling Green and since they lost the second matchup, they'd lose the tiebreaker.  If Greenwood beats Warren East (making them 6-2 in this scenario with a loss to Warren Central), it's the three-way tie.  If Warren Central loses either of those games, then they will be the three seed.  As long as Warren Central beats South Warren on Wednesday and Greenwood handles Warren East on Friday, there should be a lot of eyes on the Greenwood at Warren Central game on February 14th.  And we may still not know who the 1, 2, or 3 seed is after that.
