BluegrassPreps.com 14th Region Week 9 Review

Featured Replies

The 2021/22 season is inching closer and closer to being over with as we are now at the beginning of February. Time has flew by this season.

Perry County Central has now won 8 straight after last week's 57-42 win over Letcher County Central. The Commodores picked up a big game for this coming Saturday, February 5th, they will take on Louisville Ballard. I do not have an exact location for that game. Tip for that game is set for 3 PM. Commodores will battle East Ridge on Tuesday.

Breathitt County had an outstanding showing in the KHSAA All "A" State Tournament this past week at EKU's McBrayer Arena in Richmond. The Bobcats picked up three wins before falling in the Championship game to Pikeville 53-44. Breathitt County defeated Lyon County 62-60 in a thriller, Covington Holy Cross 75-59 and Harlan Independent 63-61. Breathitt County be back in action on Thursday hosting Harlan County Black Bears. Breathitt County will then take on Letcher County Central in the Scott Blank Classic at Buckhorn on Saturday.

The Wolves lost their only game last week, falling 70-49 on the road at Boyd County. This was a late game pick up as they're game at Bell County was cancelled. Wolves will look to get back on track this Friday and Saturday when they take on the Engineers of Estill County (Friday) and the Patriots of Knott County Central (Saturday).

The Knott County Central Patriots finally picked up a huge region win this season, defeating Hazard 51-38 last week. The Patriots have three big games this coming week, two of which are district games for district seeding.

Hazard split games this week, falling 51-38 to Knott County Central but bouncing back to defeat district foe, Leslie County 69-34. They're game on Saturday with Letcher County Central as a COVID win for Hazard. Hazard will look to build on the win over Leslie County this week when they take on Owsley County, Powell County and Cordia.

Letcher County Central split two games last week, defeating Owsley County 56-47 (which ran they're win streak to 3 games) before falling to Perry County Central 57-42. Letcher County Central's game tonight with Buckhorn is canceled. They will take on Knott County Central on Thursday and Breathitt County on Saturday at Buckhorn's Scott  Blank Classic.

Engineers pick up a huge road win over Southwestern. The Engineers went on the road last Tuesday and defeated the Southwestern Warriors in a thriller 61-59. Senior Bryce Willis and Sophomore Kenny Rose led the Engineers with 35 of Estill's 61 points combined. Bryce Willis' 20 points, led all scorers. Estill County will look to improve to 5-0 in district play this week (currently sit at 3-0) as they host Powell County Pirates tonight in boy/girl double header and Lee County on Wednesday. Estill County will take on Trinity Christian on Tuesday, Wolfe County on Friday. Estill County's game with Cordia on 2/18 will not take place. Estill County had to reschedule a district game with Lee County and this was the only date they could make the game up.

Cordia finally snaps a 3 game losing streak by defeating Clay County 86-67 but the downside to that is, Cordia is 2-6 in they're last 8 games. Cordia's home game with Estill County on 2/18 is not taking place, Estill County had to reschedule a district game with Lee County.

Buckhorn picked up two wins last week to snap a three game losing streak. Buckhorn defeated both Red Bird 86-56 and Lee County 69-38.

Where would you rank them?

It's kinda hard to get them close to where they should be. They beat Hazard but only have two region wins. Everyone below them they have either beat or those teams they have beat, have beaten the other teams below them.

Around 8th or 9th.

Knott County Central is a young team but I don’t see them rated as low as 8th or 9th. I think ASB has them about right. The Patriots, Letcher County Central, Cordia and Hazard are all clumped together pretty close. Hazard would be the best of the group if their leading scorer and leader Andrew Ford had not gone down with a knee injury a few weeks ago and lost for the season.

But anyway one evaluates it the region is a three team race between Perry County Central, Breathitt County and Wolfe County. As it looks right now Perry Central is number 1. February15 Breathitt County will play Perry County Central in Hazard in a game that should give us a better idea of the favorites heading into the districts and region.

Give me Hazard, LCC, Cordia, and even Estill Co ahead of KCC….Wolfe Co away from their home court is very beatable by a bunch of teams IMO
