BluegrassPreps.com 12th Region Week 7 Rankings and Review

Recommended Posts

The region saw some wild games this past week with some incredible matchups between contenders and some unexpected upsets. The All A regional tournament also concluded, producing a first time champ. How much of this is midseason mirage or trends heading into the postseason is yet to be seen.

Team Rankings

1.      Pulaski County – Pulaski is up to 18 wins with zero losses on the season with a pair of wins last week over Casey County and Southwestern. Cayden Lancaster scored 20 in the blowout win over Casey. The Maroons host Barren County this week before a scheduled road trip to Rockcastle County.

2.      Boyle County – The Rebels improved their record to 13 and 2 with a trio of wins with score differentials of 10 or under. They defeated district foes Danville Christian (by 10) and Lincoln County (by 3 off the heroics of Luke Imfeld) before defeating Madison Southern by 5. They are set to face the two remaining district teams this week in Garrard County (who they beat by 1 to start the month) and Danville.

3.      Lincoln County – The Patriots fell in a nail biter to Boyle County but defeated Garrard County and Mercer County. Lincoln County has four players scoring over 10 points (Tramane Alcorn, Jaxon Smith, Colton Ralston, and Evan Smith) but none of them scoring over 14 points per game. They face Danville, Danville Christian and Southwestern this week.

4.      Rockcastle County – The Rockets defeated both Anderson County and Casey County last week. Daniel Mullins had 18 and Jake Sanders had 15 against Anderson County. They are set to face Wayne County, Pulaski County, and Carroll County this week.

5.      West Jessamine – The Colts had just one game last week and it was without Gavin Salva. That spelled serious trouble as the homeschool team Bluegrass United defeated West Jessamine in over time by 8. The Colts look to rebound this week against Madison Central and Southwestern.

6.  Danville Christian – The Warriors punched their ticket to the All A State Tournament for the first time with a dramatic come from behind win over Danville. They will start the action in Richmond on the 27th against Murray, but before then they have a light week in terms of number of games but not quality of opponent as they host Lincoln County.

7.      Danville – The Ads defeated Somerset Christian before falling in the finals to Danville Christian. Life doesn’t get any easier as they go right back into it with games this week against Boyle County and Lincoln County.

8.  Somerset – The Briar Jumpers fell to Danville Christian in the All A regional tournament. They travel to play Madison Southern and Casey County this week.

9.  Wayne County – The Cardinals fell to Knox Central last week but picked up a big win over the McCreary Central Raiders. The dynamic duo of Kendall Phillips and Mason Burchett scored 18 each in the victory. They face Rockcastle County, Adair County, and Russell County this week.

10.        McCreary Central – The Raiders were fourth on this list before the holidays but have fallen sharply the last few weeks. This past week they fell to Wayne County but did pick up a win over Southwestern earlier in the week. They are off this week.

11.      Garrard County – The Golden Lions took a hit last week wth losses to Lincoln County and Petty County Central. They have a rematch against Boyle County this week, a district foe who only narrowly defeated them last time, as well as a Saturday afternoon game against Frankfort.

12.  Mercer County – The Titans beat district rivals East Jessamine and Burgin last week but fell to the Patriots of Lincoln County. They face Nelson County and Somerset Christian this week.

13.  Casey County – The Rebels fell to Pulaski County and Rockcastle County last week. They square off against Somerset and Metcalfe County this week.

14.  Southwestern – The Warriors fell to McCreary Central, Pulaski County and Taylor County last week.  They face Adair County, West Jessamine, and Lincoln County this week.

15. Somerset Christian – The Cougars fell to Adair County, Danville and Berea last week but picked up a win over Trinity Christian. They play Cumberland County and Mercer County this week.

16.  East Jessamine – The Jaguars have not won since December 20th. They added losses to Mercer County, Madison Southern and Bardstown last week. All were road games. They have not played at home since December 17th. They travel to Woodford County and Great Crossing before finally returning home after a month away as they host Taylor County.

17.  Burgin – The Bulldogs fell to Danville Christian in the All A and then Mercer County later in the week. They play Model and Fleming County this week.

Ads played pretty good against a talented DCA squad. Warriors are improving each game. It very well could be their season for some upsets if they keep improving. Congrats to DCA.

The All A had some really good games. DCA/Somerset in the Semis was a good one 54-52.  Congrats to the Warriors on a nice run.

I'm pretty sure one of the DCA assistant coaches told me that Danville and DCA play again this Saturday for a make up game.

That should be a fun game if they get to play. Weather forecast is looking to make an impact again for snow.

Somerset is playing good for losing their entire starting squad from last year. Very young but show potential. Coach Young has them going in the right direction.
