December 31, 200619 yr How excited would the entire state of Kentucky be this week if the Music City Bowl was our first round game and we were headed to Indy next Saturday for a quarterfinal game against Rutgers, Cal, Oklahoma State or even ND. Think they would have any trouble selling out. It would be fantastic to decide the NC on the field instead of having some biased sports writers, athletic directors, computer operators decide who the best teams are. OSU, Michigan and Florida may well be the best but they should have to prove it on the field instead of letting people like Lou Holtz and his cronies decide. THERE IS A BETTER WAY!!!!
December 31, 200619 yr Maybe one day it'll happen. But as is, the National Championship for college football is a complete joke. The Rose bowl gets as much hype as the NC game.

Kentucky would not have been invited into a playoffs and would be playing in a lesser bowl that would not be included in the playoff system or not going anywhere. The UK fans would be pining for the old days in which they got invited to a place like the Music City Bowl and filling the Internet with comments how the playoffs are great for the championship but leave out all the other teams that used to get postseason play.
December 31, 200619 yr Maybe one day it'll happen. But as is, the National Championship for college football is a complete joke. The Rose bowl gets as much hype as the NC game. And Villanova beating Georgetown after losing to them 3 times during the regular season proved they were the better basketball team in 1984.
December 31, 200619 yr And Villanova beating Georgetown after losing to them 3 times during the regular season proved they were the better basketball team in 1984. They were the better team on that night.. At least they had a chance to fight it out on the floor though, rather than on a computer. There has been controversy as to who should be in the BCS Championship, every single year it has been in existence. You can't say that about March Madness.

UC deserved to be invited to the dance this past spring and was not. Every March someone is offended because they did not get in. Check out the multiple threads and you will see a football playoff whether 8 or 12 or 16 and someone is going to be left out. I believe the present rankings show 5 SEC teams in the top 12 (during the South Carolina game, they showed all of SC loses were to ranked teams). You going to let 5 SEC teams in the playoffs or going to exclude one of the top 12 ranked teams in the nation?
December 31, 200619 yr Author Agreed you can't let everybody in the playoffs and some 7-5 teams will say they are left out unfairly. Under the current system they are leaving out teams that are conference champions with 0 and one loss.

Under the current system they are leaving out teams that are conference champions with 0 and one loss. There are 24 teams that have double digit wins presently as well as another 9 teams that had 9 wins. That is 33 teams that had 8 wins or MORE before the bowl season began. And you are going to exclude 17 of them with the largest proposed 16-team playoff.
December 31, 200619 yr Another point, if you have a playoff you are going to have conference champions get automatic bids. You may see some of the top interconference matchups cease. Why should Ohio State play Texas if they know they beat Michigan and they get an automatic bid? Presently, they need that game and that win to bump up the strength of schedule portion of the formula. Give them automatic bid and they don't need it as much.

After all, America is the land of the easily offended. But I honestly don't see how having a tournement can not the best way of determining who is the best team. Sure, there will be teams left out, but they can still go to the smaller bowls that they would have went to now. Rather than complain about not being selected for the tournement they should have played their way into it.
December 31, 200619 yr You may see some of the top interconference matchups cease. You would see them during the tourney..

December 31, 200619 yr You would see them during the tourney.. I heard a report during the regular season that the ratings for the regular season college football games were the highest they have ever been. They play in primetime. Have OSU playing OU instead of Texas and see if the $$ and ratings stay the same or drop off for the regular season.
December 31, 200619 yr Who says they have to limit it to 16 teams? I say go for 30 and extend the season as long as needed. I have to agree here that 51 days between the end of the regular season and the last game is a little ridiculous. THere are a lot of things that could be done with this time.
