What does that have to do with the topic?

I think it has a direct correlation, not that you should be the one bringing up thread jacking.

How excited would the entire state of Kentucky be this week if the Music City Bowl was our first round game and we were headed to Indy next Saturday for a quarterfinal game against Rutgers, Cal, Oklahoma State or even ND. Think they would have any trouble selling out.

It would be fantastic to decide the NC on the field instead of having some biased sports writers, athletic directors, computer operators decide who the best teams are.

OSU, Michigan and Florida may well be the best but they should have to prove it on the field instead of letting people like Lou Holtz and his cronies decide.

THERE IS A BETTER WAY!!!!

I have bolded the part in the original post that brings UK not making the playoffs into relevance.

I missed that.. UK most likely would not have been in the 'playoffs' if there were such a thing, depending on how many teams were invited.. But like I said earlier, you could still have the smaller bowls for teams that are bowl eligible but don't make the playoff format.

When would you play these bowl games?

Thread jacking..classic..

Is that still a felony in this state?

Another point, if you have a playoff you are going to have conference champions get automatic bids. You may see some of the top interconference matchups cease. Why should Ohio State play Texas if they know they beat Michigan and they get an automatic bid?

Presently, they need that game and that win to bump up the strength of schedule portion of the formula. Give them automatic bid and they don't need it as much.

The big games would still help for seeding purposes, and even if they got left out of the regular season, you'd get them in the playoffs.

As far as people being left out, sure there would be, but could South Carolina really make an argument that they're BETTER than Florida or Arkansas? No.

The idea of a playoff is only to make sure the best team in the country is included, not to include the 8, 12, or 16 best teams. The point is that you'd rather be arguing about who is 8 vs. 9, 12 vs. 13, or 16 vs 17 than who is 1 vs 2.

Here are the teams from this year that would have a legit claim to a playoff:

#1 tOSU (12-0) (Big11 champ)

#2 Florida (12-1) (SEC champ)

#3 Michigan (11-1)

#4 LSU (10-2)

#5 USC (10-2) (Pac10 champ)

#6 Louisville (11-1) (BEast champ)

#7 Wisconsin (11-1)

#8 BSU (12-0) (WAC champ)

#9 Auburn (10-2)

#10 Oklahoma (11-2) (Big12 champ)

#11 Notre Dame (10-2)

#13 WVU (10-2)

#14 Wake Forrest (11-2) (ACC champ)

#16 Rutgers (11-2)

Arkansas and VT both have 3 losses, so I'm leaving them out. I advocate a 12 team playoff works fine. If you go by straight BCS standings, WVU and Rutgers are the odd teams out. I'd be happy with a 2 teams per conference rule which would eliminate Wisconsin, Auburn, and Rutgers. That would leave us with 11 teams, and allow #15 VT (10-3) in. So this is my 12 team bracket.

#1 OSU vs the winner of #8 Oklahoma vs #9 ND

#2 Florida vs the winner of #7 Boise St vs #10 WVU

#3 Michigan vs the winner fo #6 UofL vs #11 Wake Forest

#4 LSU vs the winner of #5 USC vs #12 VT

Wisconsin is the loser getting left out with 1 loss, but thats a Big11 problem for not playing every team or having a championship game.

Aside from Wisconsin, you've got Auburn and Rutgers left out, and does anyone truly think one of those 3 is the best team in football?

And look at all that spectacular football we would see.

When would you play these bowl games?

Who knows..? You would have to figure out how many there are first. But I dont see any reason they couldn't go on at the same time as the playoff games, if there were any...

Kinda like the NIT in college basketball..

So the #7 team in the nation is left out and this is a better system?

So the runnerup in a BCS power conference and a team that almost made the national championship game and holds a victory over one of your top 8 is left out and this is a better system?

And you would have included an ACC team (bolded) that proved on the field they couldn't beat a middle of the road SEC team but exclude Auburn who is rated higher and this is a better system?

Who knows..? You would have to figure out how many there are first. But I dont see any reason they couldn't go on at the same time as the playoff games, if there were any...

Kinda like the NIT in college basketball..

So you are going to replace on NY's Day, USC/Michigan in the Rose Bowl with a UK/Clemson game and expect to get the SAME AMOUNT of money from the sponsors and television contracts?

Because if you have the national championship on 1/8, as is now, then only two games will be going on tomorrow in the playoff format. You have a lot of television revenue and time slots to make up with those minor games now playing on NY's Day.

And those marquee matchups that you were talking about are away from the NY's Day games as we see now.

No, but it is on this site :thumb:

Yes, yes..And Yes.

There will always be if's, and's, and but's...

If anybody should be left out it would have to ND, they were not that good this year.

No, but it is on this site :thumb:
