Notes:

-Snow denied us a lot of games on the slate this previous week. It's a minor miracle any games took place on Saturday.

-The home team continues to hold serve in the District 14 round-robin among the Big 3.  After Bowling Green dominated Greenwood at home in mid-December, it was Warren Central dropping the hammer on Bowling Green at Dragon Gym in their matchup on January 4th.  Central never trailed - taking the lead permanently just four seconds into the game - and hit an avalanche of threes en route to a 91-69 win.  The result was somewhat anticipated, as Central was the higher ranked team and at home, but the margin was surprising.  It was the most points in the series by either team since 2004, and the most points allowed by Bowling Green since 2011.  Fun fact - the previous two teams to score 91+ against Bowling Green won the state championship.  Those being Christian County in 2011 and Warren Central in 2004. 

-Russellville continues to underwhelm.  Anthony Woodard did not play in their contest against Barren, but the development just hasn't been coming yet for a team I considered a real dark horse. 

-The light schedule didn't yield more in terms of high profile matchups, but this will be a big week.  The marquee game will be #3 Greenwood at #1 Warren Central.  The Dragons have won four in a row at home against Greenwood, but did fall to the Gators in their last matchup, the district semifinals last year.  I'll mention it each week until/if it happens, but the team that can grab a road win in the top three round robin is likely the team that gets the all important #1 seed.  If Central wins this one, they will have held serve in both of their home games.  If Greenwood wins, then all they have to do is win their two games at home and they'll have that top spot.

-The All "A" Classic kicks off this week, featuring eight teams with the addition of Foundation Christian Academy.  Todd County Central is likely to make a run to the finals from the bottom of the bracket, where they open with Foundation Christian Academy and then play the winner of Monroe County and Cumberland County.  But the top of the bracket is loaded with four top ten teams in the region, led by Clinton County, winners of three of the previous four All A regions and a state finalist a year ago.  They'll open with Russellville, and the winner there plays the winner of Glasgow and Metcalfe County.  It is likely one of those four teams brings home the region crown. 

-Warren East hosts Bowling Green, looking to snap a 54 game losing streak to the Purples.  Hope springs eternal.

Best report you can find!  Young Purples got a taste of reality against a very good Warren Central team.

I thought they ran out of gas vs a really good Elder team and just didn't seem very interested the next night against Lincoln County.

Should be interesting to see when they play Central and GW back to back next week.

Also seems WC is in Covid.  Tough brake, but part of our landscape right now.

Yes, a very inopportune time for it to happen to the Dragons, right in the middle of a critical stretch.  We'll have to see how they bounce back.

How does that affect district standings? I saw it recorded as a Greenwood win on the KHSAA site. Are they not making an effort to reschedule?

I’ve been told the efforts are under way to reschedule. If Greenwood were to refuse, that’d be a bit of a scorched earth policy that could make some waves. I doubt that happens. 
 

If for some reason it did not get rescheduled, it’s a big deal because it was a home game for Central. It would give Greenwood a big leg up in the district standings.
