Notes:

-The last two unbeatens in the region fell this week.  Top-ranked Bowling Green survived their first scare in the Ashland Invitational, with Wardlow knocking down a three at the buzzer to lift the Purples to a one point win over Pikeville.  They weren't as fortunate the next two, falling to a very tough Cincinnati Elder team by eight and then losing a late lead against Lincoln County.  That sends them into a very big game with Warren Central on a rare losing streak - they haven't lost three in a row since 2017.

-Meanwhile, Clinton County saw their 12-0 start end in a 28 point loss to St. Joseph (CA) out in Las Vegas.  Not much worry there - that team is ranked in the top 50 in California per MaxPreps.  This is the best start for Clinton County in the Riherds scoreboard era, as far back as I have records for.  Nick Delk is averaging almost 18 PPG and hitting 56% of his attempts.  They will look to (essentially) wrap up the #1 seed in the 16th District with a win over Metcalfe County on Friday, which would give them a season sweep - it's all but impossible to imagine they could lose multiple games to Cumberland County or Russell County to lose the top spot.  The strong start was enough to push them up to #4 in the rankings, right behind the Big 3.

-Warren Central gets to try their hand at holding the top spot.  Central remains unbeaten against Kentucky competition, losing only to Arsenal Tech out of Indianapolis two weeks ago.  They won the Mason County Invitational this past week, losing a 21 point lead against Bryan Station before a second large run gave them an additional 20 point margin (winning by 14), and survived overtime against Collins in the title game.  They can consolidate that top spot if they can hold serve at home against Bowling Green this week.  They've lost nine in a row against D.G. Sherrill-coached Bowling Green teams.

-Excepting last year's truncated schedule, the three combined losses for Warren Central and Bowling Green represents their fewest entering a meeting since December 2002, and is their fewest for a January meeting in 28 years.  It's a big game.

-Todd County Central took a head-scratching loss to an Edmonson County team they'd already defeated twice this year, but tough to beat a team three times? Still, their 10-2 start is a marked improvement and enough to put them on the cusp of the top ten.  They can put themselves into it if they can defend their homecourt against Franklin-Simpson this Friday.

-A couple of the teams made life difficult on me gathering results this week.  South Warren finally got their results up today after I scoured the internet for their results in Orlando, and at this time Allen County-Scottsville hasn't updated their Riherds scoreboard with the results they had in their own Christmas tournament - I tracked that down from their Twitter account.  You can't hide from me!
