Lincoln Co. 58 Raceland 56 (O.T.)

Featured Replies

Raceland's Lady Rams fell to Lincoln Co. tonight in the Applebee's Classic by the score of 58-56 in overtime. Raceland's R. Vanderhoof hit a three at the buzzer to send the game to o.t.. Paige Porter hit a shot at the buzzer in o.t. that would had sent it to the 2nd o.t. but was ruled no good. Report that I got said after looking at the film the shot went in before the buzzer. At any Rate the Lady Rams had a good showing in this tourney going 2-2 I believe. Scoring leaders for the "Ramblerettes" for tonights game were:

W. Seals 15

R. Vanderhoof 15

Paige Porter 14

Hopefully we will get some more details when some of the fans get back home. Here is prayers for a safe return and congrats on a good job in this tourney by the Lady Rams.

Congratulations for a fine tournament performance.

I want to make a correction to my earlier post. R. Vanderhoof hit 3 free throws to send the game into O.T. and not a 3pt. shot.

About the Lincoln and Raceland game, the last call was a charge. Bustle from Lincoln County stepped over to take a charge and the ref called the charge. So the call was a charge not a late shot, the shot clearly went in before the buzzer. The ref made the right call.

I guess that would depend on who you talk to. The lincoln co coach told the raceland coach the point was good. The film also agrees and shows no charge call.

If she stepped over as you have stated, were the feet planted? If the defender stepped in front of the offensive player without getting set, then it should not be a charge. Being stationary would make a difference, if the defender was not set it should have been a foul, the shot counts and the offensive player shoots a free throw for the win.

Good points cville. This earlier post was the first I heard of a charge call. Was a call made? If not, there was no charge. If so and the ball leaves the shooters hand before contact - the points are good I believe, if not set - as you said - points good, shooter at the line for the win. Not sure on what happened and it is in the past now anyway. Great job by the Lady Rams vs. some good competition in this tournament. "If" the Lady Rams stay focused and "keep their eye on the prize" so to speak they will be fine. GO RAMBLERETTES!!!!

The other official for the game was also working the next game and stated that his partner did NOT call a foul, but called the shot no good. There are also reports that at the beginning of the first over time the official in question told the Lincolon County coach that there would not be a second one! Just hearsay I know, and I don't want to take anything away from a very talented and hardworking Lincoln County team. They played some very good defense.

I also heard that the official stated "no 2nd OT"...that just takes the heart out of the game. I just really didn't want to believe that an official would say something like that in any game situation. If this official told the Lincoln Co coach that, wouldn't it just be the right thing to tell the Raceland coach the same? I feel certain the Lady Rams would go for a 3 instead of a layup had they had the same information. They have several above average 3 point shooters.

I overheard the Lincoln Co. coach tell Raceland's coach the shot was good. Later I saw the film. Shot was good and no charge was called...

As Ramland said, the Lincoln Co girls are a hardworking, very defensive team. Congrats on the win and good luck.

That being the case -- there was no charge called therefore the shot was good. If there was no call, I can't see how anyone could say that the last call was a charge and not waving off the shot(unless they were trying to cover up :D ). Sounds to me like they just "blew" the call on the shot being good. Tough break but as another poster stated not to take away from a good Lincoln Co. effort and the game they played, I am sure that there were mistakes that the Raceland team made if they had not this call/no call/bad call wouldn't had made a difference. A team can usually look back and see mistakes that had cost them before. :thumb: . On to the rest of the season now. :thumb:

First of all i would like to start off by saying that this was the best game of the torney both teams played with intinsity and with no fear what a great game to watch sorry it had to end with such contreversy the ref in question did punch thin air as if there was a foul called i was confused as well til i heard the clock keeper saying that there was a foul called but at this point it doesn't matter these winter torney's are played to prepare for what lies ahead i think that both teams are better for having played this leave it on the floor ball game To the raceland ladies you are a solid ball team and i will be watching and pulling for you when you meet russell good luck happy new year

Lot of conflicting reports, but, if there was a charge called, the shot cannot count regardless of whether or not she let the ball go before the contact. Sounds like the 16th region officials aren't the only ones who make mistakes.

I agree with 30pointer, it was definitely a great ballgame. I must say that the officiating was very fair and consistent. The controversy to me was the "no 2 o.t." statement and also the shot. Many Raceland fans felt the officiating was extremely good up until that point. Overall it is a good tournament that prepares the teams for upcoming districts and regionals. Good luck to both the Lady Rams and the Lincoln Co. team.
