Male 69 Ashland Blazer 66 (KOB Tournament)

Recommended Posts

Male came from 5 down in the last two minutes to pull out a 69-66 win over Ashland in the KOB.

Ashland had possession and 20 seconds left in the game and with a 66-65 lead. Probably everyone in the gym thought they were holding and expecting to be fouled but one of their guards, I don’t remember which, took an ill advised off balance shot that smacked off the backboard and led to a Male fast break basket to put them up by 1. Ashland threw the ball inbounds and turned it over for another quick Male basket. Villers missed a 3 for the Tomcats at the horn that would have tied.

Ashland’s All State player Cole Villers played tonight but is still hobbled by an IT-Band injury and played limited minutes. According to coach Mays on the post game radio interview Cole will be going to doctors in the morning to see what medically needs to be done, and he will not be available for the Tomcats for an unknown amount of time.

A healthy Cole Villers was averaging 23 ppg before he suffered the injury in the Marshall Hoopfest (he scored 4 points tonight). He  missed the Ballard game in the Marshall tournament, as well as other games the past two weeks. He played very well in the opening game against Lyon Co but a few falls and slips have re-aggravated the injury .Hopefully he will heal and be ready for tournament play in February.
