Rapidly Developing Situation Category 4 Moderate Risk Area for WKY

We have a rapidly developing situation. The Storm Prediction Center has increase the severe threat to a level 4 Moderate Risk Area for portion of western Kentucky from the Land between the Lakes area westward. A level 4 is a big development. There is only one level left. If it goes up one more we may see a PDS(Particularly Dangerous Situation) issued. These are issued on very rare occasions.

Everyone in the affected area should be preparing now for the possible situation later this evening. I checked the the forecast soundings for that area and EF-2+ tornadoes are possible.

This is the latest from the Storm Prediction Center.

  ...Severe thunderstorms expected over parts of the parts of the
   Mississippi and lower Ohio River Valleys this evening and
   overnight...

   * LOCATIONS...
     Eastern Missouri
     Eastern Arkansas
     Central and southern Illinois
     Western and middle Tennessee
     Western and central Kentucky
     Central and southern Indiana
     Northwestern Mississippi
     Extreme northwestern Alabama

   * HAZARDS...
     Several tornadoes, a few intense
     Scattered damaging winds
     Isolated large hail

   * SUMMARY...
     A few strong tornadoes, damaging gusts, and large hail are all
     expected beginning this evening across Arkansas and Missouri,
     with the greatest tornado threat close to the confluence of the
     Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. The damaging wind and tornado
     threat will persist overnight while spreading eastward into the
     Tennessee Valley and northeastward across the Ohio Valley
     overnight.

   Preparedness actions...

   Review your severe weather safety procedures for the possibility
   of dangerous weather today. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio,
   weather.gov, or other media for watches and warnings. A tornado
   watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form
   during the next several hours. If a tornado warning is issued for
   your area, move to a place of safety, ideally in a basement or
   interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

Once again this is a rapidly developing situation. Everyone should be preparing now for possible storms in your area. Next update later this afternoon.

Those in western Kentucky should really pay attention to the weather. A Mesoscale Discussion has already been issued for a small section of that part of the state. There is a 95% chance a weather watch will be issued in the next hour or so.
