The South Oldham Dragons (0-1) host the Fairdale Bulldogs (0-1) this Friday in a matchup between two perennially strong programs that had a rough week 1.

South unveiled its new spread offense on the road at #3 (3A) CAL last week, and despite seizing an early 3-0 lead after one quarter, fell behind 24-11 heading into the fourth period and ultimately fell, 31-11.     Offensively, South showed some of the hints of why head coach Jamie Reed is optimistic about this bunch; the offensive line is big and powerful, and the three main running backs showed flashes.    But the new offense needs some tweaks; timing was perhaps the biggest issue.

Fairdale played host to Class 2A powerhouse Beechwood, and fell, 35-0, in the King of the Bluegrass Bowl at Fairdale.    Cameron Hergott of Beechwood threw for 165 yards and two scores and ran for 81 yards and another, to lead the Tigers.   

During last year's COVID-crazy year, South finished 5-4.    It was the Dragons' first season with fewer than 10 wins after five consecutive seasons of reaching that threshold, and the Dragons are seeking to get back to their pre-COVID level of play.    Fairdale had a great year last year, going undefeated through 7 games on the field.   In fact, Fairdale never did lose a game on the field....the Bulldogs ultimately were eliminated in the third round of the playoffs when they were quarantined due to COVID, resulting in a COVID forfeit.

Should be an interesting bounceback game for somebody.

Fairdale was missing some players against Beechwood but I don't know if they were starters or not. They should be back for this game. This could be competitive game. I'll take South.

Another one bites the dust...

Fairdale is under COVID protocol. South Oldham has already found a replacement game against Silver Creek (IN).

 

Any Hoosiers out there who can tell us about Silver Creek?

 

I understand Silver Creek graduated something like 21 seniors off last year's team - there will be a lot of newcomers in the starting lineup tomorrow night at South.

Still hoping there's some folks from the Indiana side of the river who can tell us more about the Silver Creek Dragons....

Looking at Calpreps, I'll take Silver Creek in this one but I think will be competitive game.
